• 1917 - World War : Frank Hubert McNamara was awarded a VC for rescuing a downed comrade in Palestine becomesing the first Australian airman to win the award.
• 1954 - Korean War: 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment embarked in Sydney on the New Australia for its second tour in Korea.
