- 1901 - Second Boer War: The Queensland Mounted Infantry Regiment Suffers the first casualties of any Australian colony.
- 1975 - Office of Australian War Graves is established.
- 1942 - World War II: 8th Division made contact with the Japanese in Malaya.
- 1943 - World War II: Buna Government Station is captured from Japanese forces.
- 1914 - World War I: First Australian Imperial Force disembarked at Alexandria, Egypt.
- 1941 - World War II: 6th Division in action at Bardia, Libya beginning Australia's first major ground campaign of the war.
- 1942 - World War II: Japanese air attacks begin against Rabaul, New Britain.
- 1941 - World War II: The 6th Division captures the city of Bardia and 40,000 Italian prisoners, including four generals, at a cost of 130 killed and 326 wounded.

- 1988 - Captain PJ McCarthy was killed whilst on duty the UNTSO Observer Group in Lebanon becoming the first Australian Serviceman to die whilst serving with the United Nations.
- 1900 - Second Boer War: Troops from New South Wales are attacked at Prieska by Boers.
- 1944 - World War II: The 20th Brigade occupied a major Japanese barge and supply point at Nambariwa in the Australian advance to Sio in New Guinea.
- 1942 - World War II: 8th Division causes heavy casualties on Japanese in an ambush at Gemas in the first Australian contact with Japanese troops of the war.
- 1947 - The School of Infantry is reformed following World War II.
- 1944 - World War II: Australian 9th Division capture the town of Sio destroying the Japanese 20th Division in the protracted Huon Peninsula Campaign.
- 1993 - Main contingent of 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment began to arrive in Somalia by aircraft as part of Operation Solace.
