• 1942 - World War II: First Japanese air raid on Darwin, 243 were killed and 350 injured.
• 1943 - World War II: The Government passed the Defence (Citizen Military Forces) Act 1943. This act defined the so-called South West Pacific Zone to which militia units could be sent for active service.
