- 1941 - World War II: Germans and Italians launch the first major attack on Tobruk which was repulsed by the 2/17 Battalion. This was the first defeat of a German attack in North Africa.
- 1954 - Korean War: 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment relieved 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.
