Milwaukee Lutheran High School (MLHS) is a secondary school located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that was originally part of Lutheran High School (LHS), thus making it the oldest Lutheran high school in America. Established in 1903, the MLHS half of the school split from its Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) brethren after arguments between the synods to form its own school. Two schools are now in turmoil because of LHS, MLHS and Wisconsin Lutheran High School (WLHS or Wisco). It is owned and operated by forty-six Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS) congregations and accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Milwaukee Lutheran has twice been recognized as a National Exemplary School (Blue Ribbon School) by the U.S. Department of Education. In 1995, the LCMS honored Milwaukee Lutheran as a "Recognized School of Excellence."
