Milton Ortiz Jr.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Milton Ortiz Jr. is a member of the United States Army, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry (Mechanised) of the Pennsylvania National Guard.

He held the rank of sergeant but was demoted after pleading guilty to charges involving the killing of an Iraqi civilian and the threatening of another.

He was also tried by court-martial in Baghdad for a related charge of conspiring with two other soldiers to plant an AK-47 rifle near a slain Iraqi civilian to make it look like he was an insurgent.

Ortiz pleaded guilty to pressing an unloaded gun to a civilian's head and a hearing examiner reduced his rank to the grade of specialist. He avoided prison.
