Milnthorpe is a small market town within the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, England. Straddling the A6 road, the town contains several old hostelries and hosts a market in The Square every Friday.

Historically a part of Westmorland, Milnthorpe is the site of a 19th century parish church dedicated to St Thomas which overlooks The Green and The Square - prior to its construction Milnthorpe was in the parish of Heversham.

The River Bela and estuary (which has now receded back to Storth), but was used to transport goods in and out of Milnthorpe and that is why so much business still exists here.

Local industry includes a 300-year old comb making family business - Duralon Combs. Also Big Fish Internet who were the first web design company to be established in England, founded back in 1995 in a bedroom on Park Road. Tourism and hospitality have always thrived (being a convenient stop off point on the A6 for coaches and cars en route to the Lake District -- and just to the north is Levens Hall, famed for its topiary).

This hot bed of business and activity was centred here because it was originally a port. The popular children's drink Um Bongo was made here by Libby's in Milnthorpe back in the 1980s.

Each July, the Milnthorpe Men's Forum holds its annual art exhibition in the church. Milnthorpe has two steel bands - one for adults and the other based in the village junior school.

The Dallam Tower estate stands near to the River Bela just south west of Milnthorpe, whilst St. Anthony's Tower may be seen on the top of St. Anthony's Hill to the north east of the village centre, overlooking the village and the housing estate of Owlet Ash Fields in nearby Ackenthwaite.

It has one secondary school, called Dallam School

It also has one primary school, called Milnthorpe Primary School.
