[edit] History

Millstream Brewing Company was established in 1985 in Amana Colonies by local restauranteur Carrol Zuber and brothers James and Dennis Roemig. Joseph Pickett designed the brewery and created the original recipes. Originally Millstream's only products consisted of the Millstream Lager, and later the Schild Brau. In 2000 three employees formed a partnership and purchased the brewery from the Zuber family. Since that time Millstream has continued to grow and expand their product line, now offering eight different beers and three types of Soda.

Colony Oatmeal Stout Colony Oatmeal Stout used to be just a winter seasonal brew when it first was introduced back in 1996. But since then popular demand has made it into an all year affair. The 'oatmeal' in the name is due to the 10% oatmeal in the grist of this brew. Most stouts are made using ale yeast, but Millstream uses a lager yeast to make this beer. Black malt and roasted barley give the beer its color, and coffee-like flavors. The Stout is only brewed in the colder months, because that is when it is the most popular.

[edit] Schokolade Bock

The history of Bock beer is a complicated one, going all the way back o the dark ages in Europe. In the 14th century, the city of Einbeck became famous for this style of beer. So thats where the name "beck" or "bock" has come from. No other beer has a more pure and intense malt character as a true Bock. Many large breweries in the U.S. have diluted the original strength of this beer, but Millstream makes the real thing. The body of this beer is rich, making it a good beer to warm up to during those "special" Iowa winters. The blackened malt that is used in it gives the brew a slight hint of chocolate. It's a smooth brew, having been lagered for over a month in the brewery cellars, in true bock style.

Recipe O.G. 15.0° Plato F.G. 5.5° Plato 35 IBU 25 SRM 5.2% alcohol by volume 100% Briess Malt Bonlander Munich base malt, Caramel 120L, Chocolate Malt, and Wheat Malt Northern Brewer and German Tettenang Hops
