MDL: The Series has 13 one hour episodes, twelve of which are taped, with the thirteenth to be broadcast live. The winner receives the title "Million Dollar Lady", and financial winnings that are unprecedented in female boxing.
[edit] History
Since December 2005, MDL began to organize and recruit diverse talent to ensure the credibility and integrity of the League and its' properties as it relates to television, gaming, merchandising, etc. One of the first duties was establishing the MDL Commissioner, former Treasurer to the National Boxing Commission Nicholas Ferranti, Jr.. One of Ferranti's first tasks as commissioner was to draft and to have adopted the MDL Rules as they pertain to the league.
[edit] MDL vs Traditional Boxing
MDL is different than other female boxing leagues in that it is a female team, boxing on a national level. The intent in creating the show was to not build one particular female boxing star; but to rather build successful national teams that will draw a wide audience.
In the past, Boxing has always been a singular star driven sport, which has made it vulnerable to individuals who had their own interests ahead of the sport. This has been seen time and again, from the promoter, the boxer and on occasions even the broadcasters themselves. The self serving interest has made a small percentage in the sport extremely wealthy and have given them a strangle hold on the sport while providing dim hope for aspiring young boxers and the future of the sport.
[edit] Production
The Million Dollar Lady pre-qualifies all competitors; an MDL Boxer has to meet criteria that are based on beauty, poise, education, personality and fitness. Another standard that the contestant must adhere to is both the MDL Mission Statement and the Code of Ethics that will serve as guidance for all aspiring athletes.
While MDL creates opportunities for Champions to be crowned, it also provides all the competitors with an equal opportunity to challenge the champion without politics or money playing a role. But MDL goes beyond the title "Champion"; MDL Boxers have an opportunity to become role models, actresses, stuntwomen, instructors, lecturers, and the list goes on. MDL helps to create these opportunities by leveraging its' company's global reach, personnel and media resources.
