[edit] Sports

The school is known for being the home of the Miller Place High School Panthers badminton team, a group that remained undefeated from 1973 until the streak's end in April, 2005 at 504 straight games. The team was undefeated under coach Pat McCarrick's 25 year's leading the team, and had only a single loss in the ten years following her 1997 retirement.[2] Currently the school's record is 534 wins and 5 losses, three losses to the Smithtown High School team and two to Half Hollow Hills. In the 2008 season Miller Place High School was undefeated until the boys badminton championship, where they lost to Half Hollow Hills. This ended Miller Place High School 35 consecutive wins in the Suffolk badminton team championships. (http://www.newsday.com/sports/highschool/badminton/ny-skmill205694374may20,0,2872253.story

It should be noted that the winning streak started when the Miller Place team started entering boys into the league previously made up of only girls from other schools.

Miller Place High School's Girl's Field Hockey team has made two consecutive trips to the state championships.

The varsity panthers football team had big opportunities ahead of them; playing cross-town rivals Mount Sinai and Shoreham-Wading River this past year. They defeated Mt. Sinai 28-21 at Mt. Sinai, the home field in which they haven't lost at in 3 years.

The varsity baseketball team defeated Amityville twice in the 2007-2008 season. The first two wins against the Warriors in Miller Place High School history.

The boys soccer team has been a well known competitor with other teams on Long Island, have posted respectable records and has made the playoffs for four straight seasons.

The Miller Place cross country team has also had recent success. They won their league in 2007 and came in second place in State Qualifiers, losing to Hauppauge 81-86.

Zach Buonaiuto was the first county champ in 21 years for Miller Place

Miller Place's FIRST Robotics Team (Team 514) has recently gained notoriety. In less than a decade, the team has managed to win a number of awards, among them several in the SBPLI (School-Business Partnerships of Long Island) Long Island Regional event (including champion, finalist, sportsmanship, rookie, chairman's, and judge's honors, among others) The team also won a championship participation award at the Deer Park Invitational in 2005. The Robotics Team made two consecutive trips to the World Championship Event in Atlanta, Georgia.

Because Miller Place High School does not have a sufficient wood and metal shop any longer (due to their conversion into chemistry labs), the team meets at the North Country Road Middle School to construct their robots.
