Millennium University

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Millennium University (Bengali: মিলেনিয়াম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or TMU is a non governmental university located at Dhaka, Bangladesh. The university is sponsored by Khan Foundation, a Philanthropic Private Development Organisation (PVDO) and established under the Private University Act 1992.[1] It is affiliated by the Government of Bangladesh and overseen by the University Grants Commission Bangladesh.

The main campus of TMU is situated at Momenbagh, Dhaka 1217, Bangladesh in an idyllic setting in the heart of the city. This provides an excellent opportunity to students belonging to middle and lower income families in the neighborhoods with an easy access to pursue their higher education. TMU is the only Private University in Bangladesh in the vicinity of wide urban areas of the Capital, catering for large student population who are unable to afford higher education in the relatively affluent section of the community located in Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara or Dhanmondi districts of the Capital. Both the campus and the administrative building are surrounded by tree-lined scenic environment. TMU is one of the few private universities in the country having its own campus under the charitable auspices of Khan Foundation. Such an arrangement contributes in saving significant rental and other overhead cost for TMU, thereby drastically cutting down per capita education cost for students[2], an extremely critical factor for providing access to higher education to a generally poor population in a country like Bangladesh.
