Millennium Bridge (Dublin)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Millennium Bridge (Irish: Droichead na Mílaoise) is a pedestrian bridge spanning the River Liffey in Dublin, joining Eustace Street in Temple Bar to the north quays.
Installed in November 1999, to commemorate the new millennium (2000), the span was actually constructed fifty miles from Dublin - in Carlow - as a portal frame structure made up of a slender steel truss and resting on reinforced concrete haunches. The steel was supplied by Harland and Wolff.
The Millennium Bridge is neighbour to the much older (and well known) pedestrian Ha'penny Bridge to the east, and Grattan Bridge to the west.
