Millefiore Family

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Millefiore Family or Millefiore Famiglia ("Millefiore" roughly means "Thousands of Flowers", and "Famiglia" means "family" in Italian), is a fictional Mafia family in the anime and manga series Reborn!.

The Millefiore family takes over as the major antagonists following the Vongola Ring Battles between Tsuna's family and the Varia. After arriving nine years and 10 months into the future, Tsuna discovers that the Millefiore have succeeded in crushing the Vongola, effectively leaving the strongest mafia family in a state of emergency. Following the attack, the Millefiore have begun a methodical elimination of all Vongola members and associates. White Spell and Black Spell shows the two different families that were combined to be one. White Spell is led by Byakuran and Uni leads the Black Spell

[edit] Early history

The Millefiore Family is a newly formed mafia family, as a result of the merging of two separate mafia families, the up-and-coming Gesso family led by Byakuran, and the Giglio Nero (ジッリョネロ jirryo nero?)1 Family (Which means "Black Lily" in Italian) led by Uni, which has as much history as the Vongola.

[edit] Mafia Wars

Versus Vongola Family
During the Future arc, the Millefiore Family has launched an all-out war against the Vongola Family. Using the power of the boxes and rings, along with the lack of Vongola Rings in the future, the Millefiore have thus far been successful in eliminating the Vongola. The war began because the Millefiore wants the 7 Vongola rings, as combining them with the 7 Millefiore rings and the 7 Arcobaleno pacifiers would give them ultimate power. This would give the Millefiore Family the power to overtake the Vongola's position at the top of the mafia underworld. They have also stolen many of the Vongola rings, save a few lesser ones and the main ones, in order to take this position. They have already made great progress as many notable Vongola members are missing or dead in the future, including Tsuna.
They already have 5 of the 7 Arcobaleno pacifiers and presumably all 7 Millefiore family rings. With Tsuna and his family's appearance in the future they have their sights set on their Vongola rings. They have also been attempting to change the ten-year bazooka technology in order to control time and get the rings from a time when Tsuna was much weaker and did not know what was happening. The family seems to have a large picture frame with slots for all of the rings and pacifiers.

[edit] Special Weapons and Items

[edit] Rings

The Millefiore Family uses seven rings that are said to be on par with the power of the Vongola rings, often referred to as the Mare Rings.

Byakuran has been shown using the Sky Mare ring. Like the Vongola Sky Ring, this ring differs form the other six in design with outstretched instead of closed wings.

The second ring is in possession of Gamma and is a Lightning ring.

The third ring is used by Glo Xinia and is a Rain ring.

The fourth ring is used by Shoichi Irie and is a Sun ring.

[edit] Mosca robots

The Mosca line is made up of top secret defense robots that were developed by the Italian government, initially for the Vongola Family's use. In the future, the Millefiore Family uses the units for scouting purposes, as well as for the defense of their base in Japan.

The Millefiore's units, the Strau Mosca, do not have people inside of them and can be controlled from a distance via their newly installed charger system called the flame engine core. They are much larger then their predecessors, the Gola Mosca unit. They have 20,000 layers of nano-composite armor that makes them resistant to direct or flame attacks. The units' weapons are also covered in the same armor making them very powerful in close combat. The units are also equipped with rocket launchers equipped with different ordinance including tear gas.

The most powerful version of the Mosca robots is the King Mosca. A Millefiore Family member, Spanner, developed the King Mosca unit to specifically combat Tsuna. The unit is equipped with three flame cores, a chain weapon, and a pair of flame covered swords.

The King Mosca is revealled to be a suit of armour and controlled from a cockpit in the chest.

[edit] Squads

The Millefiore Family is organized into two groups to distinguish their old families from one another. They are further separated into 18 different squads, each named for a plant or flower. To date, only 6 of the 18 squads have been named, however volume 18 lists all of the squads. Those originally from the Giglio Nero are the Black Spell and have the tendency to engage in direct combat. Those originally from the Gesso family are the White Spell and specialize in cunning battle tactics. There appears to be animosity between members of the White Spell and the Black Spell, resulting in a lack of communication and sabotage by individual squads.

In chapter 161, all squad captains are seen during a meeting called by Byakuran.

White Spell Zero Paphiopedilum Squad
The new defense squad created by Byakuran. Named for a genus of orchid.
Black Spell 1st Calendula Squad
Named for a the genus of flowers known as pot marigolds, which are not to be confused with true marigolds, and which are of the genus Tagetes.
White Spell 2nd Rosa Squad
The White Spell 2nd Rosa Squad is under the command of Shoichi Irie. The Cervello appear to be working as part of the Squad with him. Hidden from the other squads, this squad is currently involved in a secret project designed to bring the lost Vongola Rings back. It is unclear what purpose the machine they are maintaining in the Melone base has.
Black Spell 3rd Aphelandra Squad
The Black Spell 3rd attack squad is led by one of the family's A rank members, Gamma. They are currently dispatched across the city, searching for Tsuna after the defeat of their captain.
Black Spell 4th Ciclamino Squad
Ciclamino is Italian for Cyclamen.
Black Spell 5th Odontoglossum Squad
Named for a genus of orchid.
White Spell 6th Mughetto Squad
The White Spell 6th Mughetto ("Lily of the Valley") Squad has only been mentioned in passing conversation with Leonardo Lippi, who is supposedly a member.
White Spell 7th Fiore del Cotone Squad
Fiore del Cotone is Italian for Cotton Blossom.
White Spell 8th Glicine Squad
The White Spell 8th squad is led by one of the family's A rank members, Glo Xinia. The name is Italian for wisteria.

Girasole is Italian for Sunflower
White Spell 10th Nigella Squad
Named for a genus of flowers with threadlike leaves.
Black Spell 11th Viola Squad

White Spell 12th Camelia Squad
Camelia is Italian for Camellia.
White Spell 13th Balsamina Squad
The name may be a reference to flowers of the family Balsaminaceae, or to the common name of flowers in the species Impatiens.
Black Spell 14th Tulipano Squad
The 14th Tulipano Squad is currently engaged in a stalemate battle with the Chiavorone Family. Tulipano is Italian for tulip.
White Spell 15th Dente di Leone Squad
Named for the Italian word for dandelion.
Black Spell 16th Rododendro Squad
Rododendro is Italian for rhododendron.
Black Spell 17th Aquilegia Squad
Named for the genus of Columbines (see Aquilegia).

[edit] Bases

[edit] Main base (Paphiopedilum)

Millefiore base
Millefiore base

The Millefiore Famaily's main base is located in Italy. It is a giant glass skyscraper that seems a bit higher then any other building near it.

The base appears to have many gardens filled with flowers in it, possibly in compliment to the family's name. There is also a large meeting hall that is filled with flowers. The large wooden meeting table is surrounded by 18 large chairs. There is also a holographic projector in front of each chair. These are used if one member or more of the family can not be physically present at the meeting. Each chair is for the captain of each of the family's 17 squads, and the family's boss.

Byakuran's private office is specially shielded. It has a unique barrier which lets no thoughts pass through, especially any of Mukuro's. The shielding also blocks electromagnetic waves like light or electrical energy.

[edit] Melone base

This base is located in Japan, in the location of Namimori station underground shopping mall. The construction began ten years ago (present timeline) and was finished three years ago (from the future timeline). The base has several laser guarded air ducts that link it to the mall.

Shoichi Irie appears to be working on his time travel project here. His lab is filled with computers and a large ring which are all assumed to be related to his project; this area is blacked out on the bases blueprints. The base appears to have access to a bar/club where the family can relax. There is also a complex system of automated radar's that are designed to detect, track, and gauge the Dying Will Flame that is emitted by the Vongola Rings. The base also has a large hospital complex which is used to support injured members. There is also an underground hanger where Irie Shouichi gathers every member of the family after learning of the possibility of an upcoming Vongola attack.

A unique aspect is that all the sections of the base are composed of cube-sections of exactly equal size. These sections are camouflaged in the blueprints and maps of the base. There is at least one empty space on each floor so that the rooms can be moved when required, trapping any intruders if necessary. These sections are controlled by the flame of Irie's Sun Mare ring and channeled through a box. The entire system is routed to a secret control room that gives Irie access to every system in the base.

[edit] Members

There are only 6 captains of the Millefiore Family that are of Rank A. The family's boss is mentioned to have a rank above A. These six members are known as the Six Funeral Wreaths.

[edit] Bosses

Byakuran
Byakuran
Byakuran

(白蘭 Byakuran?)

One boss of the Millefiore family during the future arc. He is originally the boss of the up and coming Gesso Family. He appears to insist that his subordinates call him by his name. His name means "White Orchid". Thus far he is shown to be in charge, however he may be taking orders from Uni behind the scenes.
He is extremely ruthless in his goals and has nearly exterminated the Vongola Family. He has not only targeted the Vongola family but all of their allies as well. Byakuran has also ordered that not only members of the Vongola Family be killed, but all of their family members, their friends, and everyone who would help them; this is known as his "killing sweep." Takeshi's father was one of the first to fall in this manner. Byakuran is in the middle of expanding his "killing sweep" to include even more people.
It has recently been revealed that Byakuran has gathered great amounts of information about Tsuna and his family from the past. He has Shoichi Irie researching time travel by analyzing the ten-year bazooka. His plan is to travel to the past to take the Vongola Rings from Tsuna, as they were destroyed in his timeline by the adult Tsuna. He also reveals a large painting inside the Millefiore tower, with three conjoined rings, with slots for all the Millefiore Mare Rings, the Vongola Rings, and the Arcobaleno pacifiers.
Byakuran wears a Mare Ring with outstretched wings, identifying it as the most powerful of the Millefiore rings, and most likely uses a Sky attribute flame like Tsuna's ring. He later battles with Mukuro Rokudo, who was posing as Leonardo Lippi, Byakuran's would-be new subordinate. He was far more than Mukuro could handle in battle, and uses a currently unknown attack that Mukuro was trying to learn about. He has purposefully hidden what he is capable of in order to gain the upper hand in the war. The final outcome of the battle is unknown, however Byakuran had no use for Mukuro as he did not have a Vongola Ring and their battle in the chapter ended with him about to strike. He later appears and tells Irie Shouichi of the spy (Mukuro) and that he was taken care of. He also warns of the high probability of an upcoming Vongola attack.
Uni
Uni
Uni

(ユニ Yuni?)

Uni is the leader of the Giglionero ("Black Lily") mafia family. The Giglionero family is a family that is as old as the Vongola family. This family is one half of the Millefiore family. It is shown that she is related to an Arcobeleno (the keeper of the orange pacifer) meaning that it's possible that Uni has an orange sky flame.
She also bears a resemblance to the previous 8th Vongola Boss, Daniela, though it could purely be coincidence. Gamma once refers to her as "The Princess" which is a title/nickname such as Gokudera calling Tsuna "Tenth", as she is the daughter of the former leader of Giglionero family whom Gamma had served.

[edit] A Rank

Shoichi Irie

(入江 正一 Irie Shōichi?)

Shoichi Irie in the Future arc
Shoichi Irie in the Future arc
Tsuna had previously met Shoichi early on in the series (chapter 13); Lambo had stumbled into Shoichi's house, so he was forced to deliver the child back to Tsuna's house. Upon his arrival, Shoichi experienced first hand just how crazy things are at Tsuna's home. At the time, Shoichi was a middle school student. However, when Tsuna travels nine years and ten months into the future by way of the Ten-Year Bazooka, he is immediately told by an adult Hayato to kill Shoichi when he returns to the past. Although unknown at this moment, it suggests that Shoichi will do something that will lead to Tsuna and Reborn's death.
Shoichi is now part of the Millefiore Family and is captain of the White Spell 2nd Rose Squad, and one of the six A rank members in the Millefiore. He is revealed to use the Millefiore Mare ring of the Sun attribute. It seems that Byakuran and Shoichi have a somewhat close relationship; Byakuran calls Shouichi "Shou-chan" and seems to trust him the most. He is currently involved in some very important research for the family. His project has been revealed to be research about the ten-year bazooka and time travel, however it appears to be very top secret and few others in the family know about it. In chapter 153, the box which was given to him in the past to return to Lambo can be seen on his shelves.
Irie in chapter 172 is seen talking with Byakuran and predicting that the Vongola family is going to make a huge-scale attack on the Millefiore base, then showing his true self. He then takes over the entire base from both Black and White spell squads, and they are now under his command. During the attack he is very concerned with the safety of the contents of his research lab. When Irie begins to realize that Tsuna's group is winning, he uses his own box weapon. Irie's Sun-attribute box is connected to a special terminal in his lab, that when activated allows him to 'control' the base, moving the cube-shaped rooms and completely rearranging the base's layout.
It is yet to be shown how, why, or even when Irie became a member of the Millefiore family but in chapter 191 he appears to have great pleasure in trapping the Vongola Guardians. He also seems to hold a great deal of animosity towards them.
Tric Gamma (γ)
Tric Gamma (γ)
Tric Gamma (γ)
Gamma is an A ranked member of the Millefiore Family, who leads the 3rd attack squad of Blackspell, and specializes in electrical attacks. He appears to be a merciless guy, drinking during his first appearance and also acts arrogant toward Shoichi. He seems to be waiting for Shoichi's 'special' project to be done before he and the Black Spell act. Lal Mirch reveals that he is responsible for wiping out many of the allies of the Vongola Family.
While searching for Kyoya Hibari, he runs into Hayato Gokudera and Takeshi Yamamoto, and proceeds to battle them. Even though they both leave their differences and fight side by side they are no match for Gamma. Before he was able to finish off the two, however, Kyoya appears and defeats him, apparently killing him.
Surprisingly enough, he later appears in Chapter 172, revealing to be alive and objecting to Shoichi Irie when they are in the hanger bay, though it is interrupted by an unknown member from one of the Black Spell squads under Byakuran's orders to protect Irie. He was sent with Tazaru and Ginger Bread to guard the bases control room. However, when Shoichi began to move the cubes of the Melone base he runs into Gokudera and Ryohei. He handles Ryohei but is stopped by Gokudera as he attempts to deliver the finishing blow.
He uses a lightning series ring that appears to be similar in strength to the main Vongola rings. He calls it a Mare ring. He can create an electromagnetic barrier for defense with his ring. His special box releases billiard balls that carry electricity. His main weapon appears to be a billiard cue that he uses with his billard ball box weapon. Another of his boxes, when opened, creates electricity in the shape of foxes. He is also adept at using his flame in a defensive situation. When fighting Gokudrea he reveales a third box given to him by the leader of Black spell Uni which increases the power of his electric foxes.
Glo Xinia
Glo Xinia
Glo Xinia
Glo Xinia was first introduced during a Millefiore family meeting, transmitting from a remote location via hologram while hunting down the rings. At the meeting, he appears confident and quick-witted, catching on to Byakuran's plans almost instantly, where others at the table do not catch on so quickly. According to Byakuran, his inappropriate methods have caused him to clash with Shouichi in the past.
Glo Xinia is a captain of the White Spell's 8th Wisteria squad. Byakuran trusts his strength enough to send him out in retaliation of a possible appearance of the Varia. During this, he encounters the younger Chrome Dokuro, recently brought to the future by way of the ten-year-bazooka, in the abandoned Kokuyou Healthy Land building and proceeds to explain to her how he had defeated the future Mukuro and caused her future self to retreat.
He takes an almost sadistic pleasure in fighting and takes joy in explaining to her that her fighting methods are obsolete, while fighting with a box of the rain element, a riding crop, and an owl covered in the Dying Will Flame, later revealed to be playing host to Mukuro. His remarks during his fight with Chrome are often inappropriate, alluding to her supposed sexual prowess and his preference of her future body type. After his battle with Chrome and Mokuro he is hospitalized with severe injuries and a broken jaw, but it is later discovered that he planted a tracking device on Chrome. A doctor is later finds out that Glo Xinia knows where the Vongola HQ is by finding out that he was moving his eyes to tell Irie of the information he has. He also appears to know of a traitor within the Millefiore Family but due to his injuries, cannot tell Shoichi the information he has.
His name refers to the Gloxinia (or Shinningia) flower.

[edit] B Rank

Spanner

(酢花° (スパナ) Suphana?)

Spanner is a member of the Black Spell. He belongs to the family's tech department and is responsible for the creation of the family's Mosca. He has a large tattoo on the side of his neck. While others don't trust him because he is a Black Spell member, Irie considers him a good friend, as it is revealed in chapter 189 that the two have known each other since they participated in an international robotics competition together in high school. He was told by Irie to locate and eliminate Tsuna. After Tsuna defeated Spanner's King Mosca, Tsuna was knocked out (due to the reckless use of his X Burner technique). Spanner appeared to have killed Tsuna with a gunshot, but later reported Tsuna as missing to Irie. In reality, Spanner had taken Tsuna captive and chained him up in his work room. When Tsuna asked why he was still alive, Spanner responded that he has a great love for all things 'Japanese'. He comments that he designed all his Mosca using the 10th Vongola Boss (Tsuna) as a 'template'. Spanner then reveals that he is fascinated by Tsuna's X Burner technique, but notes how it is still imperfect. Spanner then states that he wants to see its full power and will help Tsuna perfect his move, much to Tsuna's surprise. Tsuna is then more shocked when Reborn appears in Spanner's room and Spanner's reaction suggests that he has been expecting him.

[edit] C Rank

Tazaru (S-TZR)
Nosaru (left) and Tazaru (right)
Nosaru (left) and Tazaru (right)

(タザル Tazaru?)

Tazaru is a C++ ranked member of the 3rd attack squad of Black Spell. He is first seen with Nosaru, attacking Lambo, I-Pin, Kyoko Sasagawa, and Haru Miura, but is defeated by Tsuna's Hyper Dying Will. Currently he has been sent with Gamma and Ginger Bread to guard the bases control room.
His special box creates a dark scythe and he also uses one of the Vongola's storm rings (with a purity of C).

[edit] D Rank

Nosaru (S-NSR)

(ノサル Nosaru?)

Nosaru is a D ranked member of the 3rd attack squad of Black Spell, and is Tazaru's subordinate. He calls Tazaru "aniki" (older brother), indicating he has a high respect for Tazaru or he may possibly be Tazaru's younger brother. While attempting to kill Lambo, I-Pin, Kyoko Sasagawa, and Haru Miura, he is defeated and disintegrated by Hayato Gokudera after the latter is able to activate his special box. Like Tazaru, his special box creates a dark scythe and he also uses one of the Vongola's storm rings, but one with a purity of D.

[edit] F Rank

Leonardo Lippi
Leonardo Lippi
Leonardo Lippi

(レオナルド・リッピ Reonarudo Rippi?)

Byakuran's subordinate. He is F ranked, and is assigned to the White spell's 6th Mughetto squad. He is called Leo-kun by Byakuran. In chapter 167, after seeing him in a video recording, Shoichi realizes that the Leonardo Lippi he sees is not the one who Shoichi had recommended to Byakuran previously, supposedly a 60 year old man. Therefore, he concludes that the present Leonardo is an imposter and the traitor that sent Glo Xinia to Kokuyo Land. The depicted Lippi is actually Guido Greco under Mukuro's illusions, and used to infiltrate the Millefiore headquarters.

[edit] Other

Dendro Chilum
A hulk of a man, Dendro is left at the base during the attack to guard it. He is known as the top lancer and a member of the family's heavy assault infantry. He is very proud and sure of himself as he attacks without thought to his actions. He once skewered his entire squad when he was positioned behind them. He has large cannons on his shoulders and has a lance box weapon.
Once Tsuna defeated him with ease he summoned his boar box weapon and attempted to destroy Tsuna. He failed miserably and his current status is unknown. The bulk of his failure stems from the fact that although he had a powerful box weapon and a large flame his flame was not very pure. According to other members of the family he was outraged at being left out of the attack on the Vongola base and periodically fired off his box weapon in the hanger in anger.
His name is a reference to a particular genus of the Orchid family.
Genkishi (Phantom Knight)
Genkishi was sent by Byakuran to protect Irie, the leader of the 2nd White Spell Squad. He is a swordsman and is said by many to be a powerful fighter and rumored to be as strong, if not stronger than, the 3rd Black Spell Squad's leader Gamma. He is a member of the Black Spell and had a secret conversation with Gamma in the 3rd Squad's base. At one point prior to Gamma's battle against Ryohei and Gokudera, Genkishi gives Gamma a special lightning flame box, a gift from the Black Spell leader, Uni. His failure to eliminate a swordsman (presumably the Second Sword Emperor) led to the (unwilling) joining of the Giglionero and Gesso families.
Unknown (formally Ginger Bread)
A young boy who wears a wizard's hat and cape, with stars in his eyes. Lal Mirch asks if he is Ginger Bread; he calmly states that he doesn't go by that name anymore, and then proceeds to reveal the death of two Arcobaleno members, Colonnello and Viper. He first claims that his attacks are derived from sorcery, but later reveals them to be based on spiders with sun flames. He can use the spiders to make walls of webbing and, if he managed to attack beforehand, inject eggs into a person's body. He may then give a signal for the baby spiders to burst out of the person's body, effectively killing them. Strangely when Lal Mirch defeated him his body was revealed to be actually a doll.
The (presumably) real Gingerbread has been sent with Tazaru and Gamma to guard the bases control room. He is a member of the White Spell's 8th Squad.
Baishana
Baishana is a member of the 7th White Spell Squad. He has been nick-named the White Massacre. He dresses in Arab clothes, wears a turbant and has a flying dying will flame carpet. He has necklace of box weapons all around his body, making him particularly dangerous since at the present point only two of these boxes were revealed. Irie is concerned about his guarding his research lab as he and his box are very dangerous. He weilds a Tsuchinoko box weapon as his main weapon, but also used a stag beetle box weapon in his fight against Ryohei.
He attacked Nigella and his box weapon because he believes that the White Spell are superior to the Black Spell and their old ways. He is defeated in chater 189 by Ryohei after Ryohei punched his Tsuchinoko so strongly that the whole snake was thrown at Baishana.
Nigella Seabankul
Nigella is a member of the 9th Black Spell Squad. He is called the Deamon Bear user in reference to his box weapon. He is bald and has several tattoos on his face and body. He left for Irie's research lab of his own accord and was killed by Baishana.
Iris Hepburn
Iris is a member of the White Spell's 12th Squad. She has an afro and looks like a stereotypical blaxploitation female hero. She is currently going to defend the computer room from the Vongola attack.
Fressia
Fressia is a low ranking member of one of the Millefiore's White Spell Squads. He is currently leading two other White Spell members into the site of Tsuna and Spanner's battle. He is currently looking for Tsuna and his ring under Irie's direction.
