Millcroft Inn

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Millcroft Inn is a hotel, restaurant and spa located in Alton, Ontario (approximately one hour northwest of Toronto.) Originally, the mill was built by Benjamin Ward in 1881 as a knitting mill, harnessing power from the adjacent Shaw's Creek. In 1892, Ward's son-in-law, John M. Dods, purchased the mill. The mill continued to run until 1965, when the mill ceased production and the contents of the building were sold. The original stone building was turned into the Millcroft Inn and has been important to the local area as an employer and in tourism development.
