Milena Canonero

Milena Canonero is a costume designer, working in film. She's a three-time Academy Award winner, having been nominated eight times. Canonero was born in Turin, Italy, and started her career in England, where her first movie work as a costume designer was in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (1971). She worked again with Kubrick in Barry Lyndon (1975), for which she won her first Oscar, together with Ulla-Britt Søderlund. Her second award was for Chariots of Fire (1981), directed by Hugh Hudson. Most recently, Canonero won her third Academy Award for Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette (2006). She also received the 2001 Career Achievement Award in Film from the Costume Designers Guild.
Canonero also worked for the stage designing the costumes for opera and theatre productions directed by Otto Schenk: Il Trittico (Puccini, Vienna State Opera 1979), As You Like It (Shakespeare, Salzburg Festival 1980), Die Fledermaus (Strauß, Vienna State Opera 1980), Andrea Chénier (Giordano, Vienna State Opera 1981), Arabella (Strauss, Metropolitan Opera 1983).
