Mile End (London) railway station
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mile End railway station was a station in Mile End, London. It was opened in 1843 on the line between Liverpool Street and Stratford. In 1872 when a new connection between Liverpool Steet and Hackney Downs opened, the station was closed and replaced by Bethnal Green railway station. This had platforms for trains on both lines until 1946 when it ceased to serve trains on the line to Stratford.
It stood exactly on the site of Bethnal Green railway station, which remains open today. Trains now run directly from Liverpool Street to Stratford without stopping, despite passing four former stations en route.
