[edit] History

Milan Entertainment was founded in 1978 by Emmanuel Chamboredon, who is still the CEO and President of the company. In the 1980s, Milan branched off to include Editions Milan Music and Editions Jade, the brand name under which all spiritual and classical music would fall. Seeing the need for a presence in America, Milan US was established first in NYC in the late 1980s. It later relocated to LA and is situated now in Sherman Oaks. Editions Milan Music became the Milan Records that of today, at the forefront of music and film with soundtrack releases like Pan's Labyrinth, The Queen, and Flags of Our Fathers, along with new artists releases, especially in the electronic genre, like Emilie Simon and 4hero. Editions Jade became Jade Music, and a third sub-label known as Chicooligan is the brand name on which all Milan vinyl is released.

[edit] Current and ongoing projects

Milan has a roster of such acclaimed artists as Emilie Simon, 4hero, Claude Bolling, and Astor Piazzolla. Their compilation albums offer samplings of film music, tangos, and Latin music.

Milan has released recordings of film scores composed by Mark Isham, Howard Shore, Maurice Jarre, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Hans Zimmer, Emilie Simon, Michael Kamen, Bernard Herrmann, Jon Brion, Jeff Danna, Ennio Morricone, Angelo Badalamenti, Joe Hisaishi, Terence Blanchard, David Arnold and other film composers.

[edit] Controversy in France

In 2006, Milan Records France caused a controversy by releasing a CD initially called Au beau temps des colonies (The good ol' days of colonization). It contains explicitly racist content and music of the colonial exhibition held in France at the beginning of the 20th century. After the media storm [1] [2] [3], some shops stopped selling the album, and Milan Records changed the title to Le temps des colonies (The time of colonization). Despite repeated protests, Milan continues selling this CD in France with the original content.
