Milagros, Masbate

Milagros is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Masbate in the Philippines. According to the 2000 Philippine census, the municipality has a population of 44,575 people in 8,304 households. It is one of the most known municipalities in the province together with Masbate City, Mandaon and Pio V. Corpuz.

The name of the municipality Milagros originated from the word "milagro" which means miracle of the Lord. The name originates from a legend that St. Peter can be found walking on the beaches of this town.

The former dominant political clan in Milagros was the De Jesus Clan replaced by the Abapo Clan. Outgoing Milagros Mayor Bernadito A. Abapo had her daughter Lovely Abapo in the Masbate Provincial Board. The results of the 2007 Local Elections replaced the Abapo Clan in Milagros. .

The municipality of Milagros is in the main island among the three islands of Masbate which is facing the "Asid Gulf". Milagros is one of the largest municipalities in the province and one of its neighbor is the municipality of Mandaon.

The culture of the municipality of Milagros - it is natural for its residents of the municipality and even other municipalities of the province of Masbate are talented in the field of agricultural edication, history, social sciences and geography. Many students from this municipality and even in the other municipalities of Masbate represent their region in contests about geography, history and social sciences.
