[edit] August 2007

Hi Mikeyww, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'd like to let you know however, that Wikipedia is not considered a reliable source that can be used for references in articles. I'd be more than happy to drop some helpful links to other policies and guidelines, should you wish them, as there are a number of things to consider when creating an article. Just reply here if you are interested. And welcome again! ArielGold 10:52, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Sure, I am all ears. Thanks. Mike (removed email for privacy reasons)

Dear Mikeyww, hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'd like to take this opportunity to explain how you can help Wikipedia by creating articles. First, make sure that an article does not already exist on the subject. Please review the following relevant policies and guidelines. Remember, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, so articles must not contain original research, should cite to reliable sources which verify their content, must be written from a neutral point of view, and can not contain unsourced, negative content about living people.

In addition, articles need to assert the notability of the subject. Please see our subject-specific guidelines for people, bands and musicians, companies and organizations and web content. Also be aware that if you are closely associated with the subject, (or are writing about yourself) the conflict of interest guideline strongly recommends against you creating or editing the article.

If you still think your article is appropriate, see Help:Starting a new page. You might also look at Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:How to write a great article for guidance, and please consider taking a tour through the Wikipedia:Tutorial so that you know how to properly format the article before creation. If you would prefer to get input prior to creating the article, to avoid the possibility that it may be deleted, feel free to post your suggestions at the articles for creation page. Sincerely, ArielGold 11:00, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
I hope that helps, and if you'd like additional resources, I would be happy to provide those as well. I have a whole little box with helpful links you'd never know were here! ArielGold 11:00, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Please be sure to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~) after your name. Thanks! ArielGold 11:01, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mike, I restored the article, but changed the issues that were there, such as having Wikipedia as a reference. It appears to me at first glance to be valid, however I'd consider moving it to Gero-Informatics as that's the proper name. Let me know what you think here, if you agree I'd be happy to move it. Thanks! ArielGold 11:07, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

That sounds OK to me. Thanks for your help. Mike 11:10, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Will be done right away, and a redirect created. Also, you can indent by typing a colon ( : ) so your reply shows up on the next line down. Likewise, this reply uses two colons, etc. Another quick note - don't indent anything when writing on Wikipedia (you haven't, just a head's up) as this is what happens when you do:
Indenting causes "non format" boxes.

So, let me know if I can be of any additional help, or if you'd like me to drop the table of links here. Thanks! ArielGold 11:13, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure what links you mean, but OK. --Mike
OK, I just saw the new page, so I think I understand your points. Should I delete the original page then? --Mike
Hee hee, okay sorry I wasn't more clear. Sometimes new users will use the habit of "indenting" paragraphs, by placing one or more spaces before they type a new section. (Again you didn't do this, so no worries), so I was just giving you a tip for the future, showing you what happens.
I've created the page, I've redirected all the others, and I've fixed all of the double redirects. Again let me know if you have any other questions, and hope I was at least a little helpful. ArielGold 11:21, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
And to answer your question, there's no need to delete it, it is a valid redirect as it is a common way of typing it, so it doesn't need to be deleted. If someone types in "Geroinformatics" it will take them to the correct page automatically. Also, only administrators can delete pages, so if you ever need one deleted, I can give you information about how to request that. ArielGold 11:23, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. --Mike

[edit] Doh lol

Thanks for catching my silly geo-gero thing, typo when I searched lol. I've added some external links that are valid this time, lmao. Also don't forget to use the edit summary! Thanks Mike, ArielGold 11:44, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Your ref. #3 of 3 was not a valid link. --Mike

[edit] References

Hi Mike, I have re-instated the script for {{reflist}} to allow Wikipedia to perform the job of doing automatic footnotes. Please see this page to learn how to properly format and cite references, rather than add them manually. And review this page to learn when you need to, and when you don't. Take a look at the article to see how the one you added appears now. Hope that is of help! ArielGold 12:52, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Good; thanks! --Mike
Hee hee, you'll be a Wiki-Expert before you know it! By the way, if you click on my name, at the top is a "Bookmarks" link, you can find nearly every policy or guideline there, with links, as well as just tons of information. Use it to your heart's content if you wish! ArielGold 13:12, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
Great! That's an interesting profile, too. --Mike
