Your DYK nomination for namus was successful

Updated DYK query Did you know? was updated. On January 3, 2007, a fact from the article namus, which you recently nominated, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thanks for your contributions! Nishkid64 03:46, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Help with a place in Belarus

Hello, I wonder if you might want to help me out a little to locate a place in Belarus. It is an orthodox monastery founded by Vaisvilkas. It is supposed to be on the banks of Neman River someplace north of Navahrudak. One English book (written by a Lithuanian) calls it Lavrushevo, the other online reference Lavrashev. Neither of them Google. I tried to look at a map, but could not find anything like that. Any ideas? Thanks! Renata 10:24, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Protocols of the Elders of Zion

Dear Mikkalai,

   How are you?
I write to you because I know you appreciate accuracy and precision.
I think you are needed at the above article.
As you probably now, it is very hard to find the 1903 Znamya (newspaper) Russian version of the Protocols of Zion. But the 1905 imprint by Serge Nilus is available - in the British Library, and on microfilm in US academic/scholarly libraries.
Now this is what am trying to get accroos.
Antisemite Nilus talked about a symbolic serpent which was to encircle Europe. He also talked about the imminent comming of the Antichrist in which he claimed (common to many Christians) that Jews would play a role.
But it was the 1920 (plus/minus 1 year) editors, compilers, translators, White Russiand fleeing from the Red Army, and other antisemites, who turned this (so-called Protocol Number 3) in [[World domination) (by the way, Nilus did not count or number the protocols - it was done also later).
So I think this is Very Important!!!
The reason is that the work of the antisemites of the 1920's is neglected.
Do you know who the BIG BAD BOY of the Protocols was in the USA? It was Boris Brasol. He was a much smarter man than any of the other antisemites - more like G. Butmi. And he was extremely productive and influencial - as an active antisemite in the USA in the 1920's.
Best regards, and I hope you go to the above article! --Ludvikus 20:23, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Isothetic and Isothetic polygon

I don't know this term, but based purely on PlanetMath, it looks like it is more general than polygons, so it would be good to either have a brief description of the general property at Isothetic in addition to the reference to Isothetic polygon, or to include a brief description of the property within Isothetic polygon and just redirect Isothetic there. —Centrxtalk • 23:44, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello Mikkalai.

Your revisions on Adam Fletcher are a little "off". I was on the writing team for 15 Points to Successfully Involving Youth in Decision-Making (2006), published by Youth On Board. Check the author page of the publication for information.

I don't understand what you mean by "false section" when you deleted the section called "Criticism" - could you explain that revision to me? Thanks. I appreciate your editing - you seem to be a voice of integrity. -Freechild 04:32, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Signature (Reply)

I would like to ask you to remove the images from your signature. I really admired your resourcefulness in creating it. However there are two important considerations. First, the wikipedia policy about signatures specificaly says "Images of any kind should not be used in signatures" and explains why. Second, the code in your signature clutters the discussion page when you open it for editing and creates some confusion. Sorry for bothering you, `'mikka 01:54, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

I was already told by Raven4x4x (talk contribs) about it in December. Does my current signature meet the guidelines? It's less than three lines long. SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 01:59, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

It is a common practice to have a link to users' talk page in the sig, rather than to the guest book. Otherwise I am quite tolerant. `'mikka 02:04, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I think will keep my signature the way it is for now. Happy editing! SD31415 (SIGN HERE) 02:08, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

image deletion

Mikka, I don't know what tag was used for this image you deleted, but it is certainly encyclopedic (unlike the article) and can be used with {{historic}} in any case. Please restore the image with the proper tag. TIA, --Irpen 05:02, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Nope. This habit of uploading whatever anyone likes must stop. The image will be deleted unless copyright proof will be provided. Besides, what exactly this image illustrates? A bunch of worried women with sad faces forced to pretend that they greet Nazis ? A bunch of happy women joyfully greeting German liberators ardorously leaping in the air? Unless we know what really is depicted as commented by an unbiased source, prefererrably by contemporary witness sommenting on an event, the image in itself is false and misleading. I've seen hundreds of various bread and salt photos of russian, belarussian, ukrainian women greeting Nazis. Don't you know how they may be produced? I am surprized with your lack of common sense here. `'mikka 05:11, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Mikka, the image is a wartime postcard widely distributed. You can find it here. The image is usable if used correctly. --Irpen 05:20, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Please read my vote in AfD. This is a sensible subject. Anything ambiguous is inadmissible. As about wide distribution, please reread the above. In any case, the issue is moot. Show me copyright proof, please. Unlike PD-USSR, this case is even more dubious. `'mikka 05:24, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Copyright probably belongs to a non-existing Nazi entity and is unenforceable. {{Historic}} definitely applies even if the copyright is still valid. That article is just crap and what is needed is a new article written based on solid sourced. The image, however, is historic and there is no reason to delete it, if you ask me. I don't care much, though. So, it's up to you. As for the so called "article" I said it all there is to it here. --Irpen 05:33, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

The keyword here is "probably". Now, if you were right, why would you want photos from Propagandaministerium here? As for the so-called "article", since it is doomed to stay, you better start working on it, if you want decent encyclopedism, starting with good title. `'mikka 05:37, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

If I ever decide to write an article on the topic, I would have started from scratch rather than from this fluff. I would rather first write the Ukraine in the Second World War as an article for the History of Ukraine series and if there is enough material, spin-off collaboration. This article in itself is just a carriage in front of the horse. --Irpen

Well, one may learn to do different things. `'mikka 05:47, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

so..

How do people leave you general comments that might not relate to a specific article or page? I guess there's nothing wrong with not keeping a talk page, but for someone who claims to know how Wikipedia works so well, I just find it odd... I honestly don't mean to offend you or anything, I just find it wildly odd. -- Ned Scott 03:21, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually, there is something wrong with not keeping a talk page. It is supposed to be a place where others leave messages for the user, including administrative messages, and whether or not the messages correspond to articles is oftentimes irrelevant. After about three years as a Wikipedian, I have a strong feeling that most administrators would take issue with this. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 06:11, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, I am not so sure they would react as strongly as you say. Although I think he may be considering this area as his own personal space to do with what he will (as opposed to a message board sort of thing), I think he should be able to keep his UserTalk page a little neat. He seems like a clever enough sort, so I am guessing why couldn't creat some form of clever archives here, both amusing and efficient. While I can see how some people might think he is hiding any negative comments as to his edits, perhaps it is something as harmless as being a neatnik. After three years of often-disconnected commentary, "trimming" it might seem a better use of space than archiving. That said, he isn't hiding his comments, not really. If folks really have a burning need to see his past comments, then simply look at the history. It contains everything.
That being said, I think that archiving some of the more substantive commentary might serve to respect/preserve some of the more interesting or administrative stuff.Arcayne 15:12, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Question about "flocking and stacking"

On my talk page a few months ago you wrote (regarding an edit I made to the Lebensborn article):

Please keep in mind that sometimes vandals flock and stack. You better watch out for both anon IPs and redlinked user names in article history. Your well-meaning edit masked a previous hoax. `'mikkanarxi 02:57, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate your comment but I don't understand the terms you are using. I am interested to learn what "flocking and stacking" means, and how an edit I made could have "masked" a hoax, so that I can better understand these things and how to recognize them/avoid them. If you could leave me a note on my talk page explaining these terms I would appreciate it. Thank you. —SaxTeacher 15:39, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

Naming

Hi, Mikka! Beg your pardon for leaving a message there in direct violation of the instructions above, but I can't think of a better place to put this inquiry.

A while ago, you moved Baltiysky Rail Terminal of St. Petersburg to Baltic Rail Terminal (as well as several other terminal articles), with the edit summary of "[use] English language". That makes all the sense to me, but when I tried researching the subject, I could hardly find any references to St. Petersburg railway terminals which use these English names. The majority of references seem to be using romanized Russian names. Thus, for convenience of readers (and my own petty reasons) I am planning on moving the articles back to romanized Russian names.

Feel free to remove this inquiry. If you don't respond, I'll take it that you don't mind me moving the articles back. Thanks!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 17:49, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Would you be so kind as to stop attempting to remove the article "Nathan Ferris" by blanking. I contest these attempts, if you wish to persist I'd recommend following Wikipedia policy and push this to AfD or the like. --Joe Decker 23:59, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

I have in fact seen your redirect of the article to School Massacre, at the time I felt it was in error. I took a deep breath, did some digging around and... well, I've come to agree or close enough to not matter. I would, however, still oppose making Nathan a #REDIRECT to Woodbridge Nathan. Thank you for your patience. --Joe Decker 00:14, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

Your deletion was unwarranted. Before jumping to conclusions, check the facts first. The person is a pop composer widely known in Russia and the article gived significant number of hints about person's notability. The article itself lists bare facts, a single hype sentence, which can be easily deleted instead of the whoile article surely is not "blatant advertising". `'mikka 18:31, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Very mild warning

Hi Mikkalai,

I recently became involved in the Langan article, and I noticed something you said on the Talk pages that deserves a mild warning. (And please note, I'm not perfect either, having received complaints of things I've said untactfully.) Your disclaimer[1] was fine, but this one contains a pretty serious personal attack:

I may continue to waste my time and explain that nearly every sentence in this description is a bias against Langan inadvertent or not (although after reading a bit from his website, I'd say that he has a quite poisonious tongue and deserves some beating).

Of course, I'm sure you meant "beating" in the metaphorical sense, but given that this is a BLP here.... Maybe not such a good idea. Anyway, the possibly offending phrase was removed.

Unfree Labor

I am happy to abide by any Wikipedian convention but as far as I can see Collective Farms belong precisely in the category of unfree labor as a type of serfdom. I can't immediately see any reason why they should be excluded from that category. It is interesting to hear I have no right to edit as I see fit. Tell you what, before I do anything rash, may I ask you to explain precisely why this form of serfdom does not belong in that category? Lao Wai 15:05, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually you could not leave collective farms without an internal passport - without the permission of the government. They were tied to the land unless their "owner" agreed. They could not grow what crops they liked. Serfs is exactly what they were. Whether the rest of the Soviet Union was free or not is irrelevant. Collective farmers were tied to the land. As for references, you may notice that about a year ago I did provide those reference. It is well established in the literature. So if there are no more objections I shall revert. Very true, but considering as pretty much the entirety of the game is set there, and that it's already become the number-one bestselling PC game in Europe[2], I would have to say it deserves some mention. Grahamdubya 15:33, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, a few weeks ago I turned the article Horos into a redirect, you put it back. My question is, is this an article about a subject, or about the greek word "horos"? Wikipedia generally doesn't have articles about words (see Wikipedia is not a dictionary), and so I question the need for this article. If we were to have an article on Greek Dances, which we don't seem to currently have, it wouldn't be titled "horos".--Xyzzyplugh 21:40, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query On 22 April 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article book peddler, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

the tsar disambiguation page

Dear Mikkalai, Thankyou for pointing out why you believe that Tsar bomba should not be included at Tsar (disambiguation) in the edit summary, namely: "it is called "Tsar Bomba", not "tsar". This page is not the list of all things with word "tsar" in them. Please read WP:DAB"

However, having read through the page you directed me to WP:DAB I cannot see what you are referring to. In fact, and in complete contradiction to your stance, I now believe that several things should be added to the page. Namely: Tsar Bell, ]Tsar Bomb, Tsar Cannon and Tsar Tank. I realise that you will probably dislike this suggestion as you have already reverted me twice when I added tsar bomb, sorry.

Nevertheless, I was under the impression that Disambiguation pages were designed precisely for the purpose of listing all things with that name. Let's discuss this further, Witty Lama 21:02, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

What you say about New York, Mercury records etc. is very true. The full name of these things (tsar bomba, tsar bell]] etc.) are indeed more than simply "Tsar" however their use of that word in their names draws on the presige of the word generated by original meaning of Tsar. Therefore, unlike Mission College and college, the two are related.
Anyway, I ask what would be the *disadvantage* of including these other things in the list? Of course, they would need to be included as a subsection below the "real" Tsars, perhaps with a "Tsar" might also refer to heading. Witty Lama 23:05, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

24. april, 2007

I deleted a warning you had given to User:Gandhix, as you had placed in on the users userpage, and I have the impression this ones is to go to the talk pages. (Unless, of course, theres a rule for admins I haven't noticed.) I thought it was about deletion of the same page we already had given him evil-looking messages for creating, however, I noted the page in question was a recreation of a formerly deleted page, when I checked the deletion-log. So, it might have been a better solution to move it to the talk page after all, but as I felt it would take a lot of explaining in the edit to do that I ended up taking it away. I also noted you used a deprecated warning from Template:TestTemplates, I thought I let you know the idea now is to use warnings from WP:UTM, and btw, you didn't sign it. So, is this an application for being blocked, or what? :-) Greswik 12:00, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Greetings

It's a standard greeting template, and I like to assume good faith about new users, whether their first contributions are actually helpful or not. I'm also assuming that the {nonsensepages} template that was posted at the exact same time made it clear to them that nonsense pages aren't appropriate. I'd appreciate if you didn't alter messages left by me in the future. At least ask me to change it myself. --OnoremDil 17:56, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

"I hope you already know that once you typed something into a wikipedia page, you don't own it."

Yes. I'm quite clear about that. I also know that it is considered rude to change comments left by other people. My name is what is signed at the end of the comment, not yours. Anyone in the future that visits that page will very likely assume that I left that message, in whatever its current form. --OnoremDil 19:43, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Transnistria

Mikkalai, while I appreciate your coming to the Transnistria article as a new outside contributor with constructive edits, I'd like to remind you that the prohibition of revert-warring goes for you too. You re-inserted the "Tiraspol Times" link twice, the second time without a comment or even an edit summary ([3]), when you knew that link was contentious and had been the object of a longstanding edit-war. I'd really prefer it if you guys engaged in some constructive discussion about the merits of that link, before making any more edits about it. Thank you, --Fut.Perf. 07:36, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

While I can understand your exasperation with certain other editors, as long as they are not (yet) banned – which they might soon be – I guess you'll have no other option than to talk to them if you want to edit the article. By the way, I don't really think "it's a local nespaper, notable by defaul" is a very strong argument for inclusion. Fut.Perf. 08:53, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
