Agitprop

I have two issues with your reversions.

  1. I am referring to a freely-accessible online copy of the Russian encyclopedia.
  2. What is wrong with answers.com anyway? It is an online repository of several printed sources, including the Britannica, and M-W dictionary. What do you mean by "undue credit"?

--Adoniscik(t, c) 19:18, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Mikka.

The site provides all the information necessary for the reader to determine its reliability. The link was not provided to promote Answers.com any more than internal links are provided to promote Wikipedia. They are included solely because they are relevant to the topic. For an article called "Agitprop‎" it is hard to argue that a link to another encyclopedia with the same entry name is not topical.

I refer you to Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Encyclopedias in Answers.com for contention of your point that directly citing encyclopedias in answers.com is not allowed. We can decide whether or not to include the link pending the result of that debate.

Best regards, --Adoniscik(t, c) 22:25, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

WINAD violation

Good afternoon, Mikkalai. You participated in an early discussion about whether the dork page rose above the level of a dictionary entry. After several discussions across different fora, I believe that there was a fairly clear consensus that it didn't. The page was transwiki'd to Wiktionary and later turned into a soft-redirect.

That soft-redirect has been undone by a user who does not seem to be interested in actually discussing the issue on Talk despite my best efforts. I am afraid that I am losing my impartiality on this issue and would appreciate other opinions. When you have time, would you please look at the page? Thanks. Rossami (talk) 18:55, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Communist propaganda

It had all started with Maximilien Robespierre in the infamous year of 1793 France, the beginning of the communist propaganda. It should be included in the article, maybe in a separate section "History"? I have added the name of the periodical from that time. I also recommend to take a look at Paul Feval's novel Le Chevalier De Lagardère to get the point. Regards greg park avenue (talk) 23:45, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Bender, Moldova

As a courtesy note, there's some discussion on RfPP (here) regarding your move-protection of this article. Given you had reverted three moves in the three days prior to your protection, I can certainly see why the other users have cause for concern, and respectfully request that you provide a suitable justification for your action. Daniel (talk) 15:26, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't notice this had already got attention. Page was on my watchlist because I closed a wee while ago a WP:RM on the page, closed with no consensus for the move being protected. I unprotected the page, as it's really bad sport to protect a version you yourself are reverting in favour. Don't take this as an insult though, the page can easily be protected if necessary by someone uninvolved. All the best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 15:43, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Candela (band)

A tag has been placed on Candela (band) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Gregg Potts (talk) 03:42, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Fish processing vessel

Hi Mikkalai. Can you please explain your reasoning? This is a long overdue article on factory ships. --Geronimo20 (talk) 23:10, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Well yes, I see you initiated the article, so perhaps you have some proprietorial interest, and perhaps you have some ideas yourself (though it would be nice if you didn't give me orders!). At the moment I am only tidying up the additions made by 75.73.209.32, and I think generally he's done a good job. As you point out, nearly all fishing vessels are engaged in some aspect of fish processing, even if its only packing fish in slurry ice. The article mentions longliners, seiners and squid jiggers, all of which are referenced elsewhere. But if you read what 75.73.209.32 says carefully, you will find he is talking about cases where these boats are also engaged in heavy duty industrial level fish processing, which is the providence of a factory ship. --Geronimo20 (talk) 23:52, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Infinite Canvas

Thanks for helping with the spammers. I'm pretty sure User:82.69.178.229 and User:Zpek are the same, because the IP address resolves to the guy who owns WebCanvas and Zpek is his email address. Since he seems pretty intent on spamming Wiki, any interest in moving to have him blocked indefinitely? Buspar (talk) 22:14, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Indeed, User:82.69.178.229 belongs me User:Zpek, and it is true that I'm the founder of WebCanvas. Since I've made some significant advancement in the concept and implementation of "Infinite" Canvasses I thought that it would be appropriate to add a wiki entry on this. My intention is not to spam, nor to be imprecise or biased. It is understandable that not everyone sees the significance of what WebCanvas has achieved, but it is a shame that only because a maintainer can't see this, he is able to undermine its importance and remove these important facts from what is the world's largest collaborative encyclopedia. Ironically, WebCanvas shares some concepts with Wikipedia, in the sense that everyone can create, collaborate, correct or destroy paintings on this "infinite" canvas and this projecy is the first of its kind. Can you help me out developing a valid entry? I can provide a list of independent sources that have reported this project and demonstrated its significance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zpek (talkcontribs) 21:33, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Stop your edit warring Ararat Arev! Everyone on Wikipedia know who you are and your unreasonable behaviour. That's what got you banned from Wikipedia in the first place. They know you so well they even created a long list of your 80 (thus far and counting..) banned socket puppets here: [1] Now you want to involve a third party like Mikkalai in your agenda next? Good grief. I gave my reasons for Azzi-Hayasa on the discussion page. PS: Stop posting vicious attacks on my talk page here with your anonymous IPs: [2] If someone has gone too far its you. Regards, Artene50 (talk) 10:30, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

They reverted back man. Can you add back the templates? This is vandalism from their part, because they are removing the templates as an excuse of "cluttering", when other pages have the same cluttering and they leave the templates on those other pages. You see? They remove them from whatever page they feel like, and they are in the templates of the history!. 76.238.244.249 (talk) 20:39, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Mikkalai, please revert Moreschi's edit, he ignorantly removed Template:History_of_Armenia again

Look at the History of Iran template! (also here -> Template:History_of_Iran) It is from around 4000 BC in their template! Hah!. They have a long list of the cultures, tribes in ancient Iran there, before they arrived, starting from Proto-Elamite civilization in 3200 BC, yes in their template!. Are you saying Persians claim they are that much older? I dont think so, they are putting their ancient history in their template, yes in their template, and they are removing ours. 75.51.170.45 (talk) 13:21, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Oblichitelnyia riechi

Greetings, Mikkalai, and I wish you Peace. As you know, I was away on a long vacation imposed by my employer. But now I'm back. Would you be so kind as to translate that Russian 2-word expression for me? Thanks. --Ludvikus (talk) 16:48, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your prompt reply. However, I'm more confused now. So if you don't mind, I'll give the context here. It's from the Library of Congress catalog entry for G. Butmi's Russian language pamphlet (a rare item today) of the notorious text. In particular, it's the Third imprint of the Protocols of Zion. The English translation I know (from Norman Cohn) is Enemies of the Human Race. Also I recognize the Russian for "Union of the Russian People." But as the name of a "series" I still have no understanding. A new little question regards the publisher: "Uchilishcha Glukhoniemykh"? Does that have an English language, equivalent, translation, or transliteration? By the way, I tend to use these links to make my meanings clear. I hope that's OK with you. Oh, I almost forgot! What's the meaning of "posviashchaetsia"? As you can imagine, that's the most important question. It expresses the publisher's relation between the Union & the Book, no?
Vragi roda cheloviecheskago: posviashchaetsia Soiuzu russkago naroda

Subject: Jews -- Russia -- History.
Antisemitism -- Russia.
Thanx. --Ludvikus (talk) 17:37, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
"posviashchaetsia" = "dedicated to the"
Tip. Uchilishcha Glukhoniemykh = "Print Shop of the School for Deaf and Mute"
Oblichitelnyia riechi = "Accusatory Narrations" - this is my suggestion. May be later you will find a standard translation.

Oleg Platonov & Historical revisionism & Historical revisionism (negationism)

FYI. I though this might interest you. It's just a stub now which I started. He's a contemporary Russian activist - in Russia, highly notable actually. So I was shocked to discover that we have Nothing on him. That's what motivated me. Also, I'm interested in the organization(s)/movement in which he's highly involved, particularly the so-called Historical Revisionism. By the way, I've not had much progress there. I think you visit to it would really do Wikipedia a lot of good. That "phenomena" is connected with the Institute for Historical Research, or Institute of Historical Research (I can still never remember which is correct). As you may know, these people are often "friend" of David Irving and are subscribers to holocaust denial. I have a feeling that there is a confusion at Wikipedia which result in taking this stuff as serious scholarship. But the mainstream scholarship is that they are mostly crackpots. I find that there is lots WP:Original research there in trying to make sense of the "theory" regarding the "revision" of history. But there is no such thing. But that's my view. I know you to be extremely independent. And from what I know, Wikipedia would improve tremendously if your independent POV made a visit over there at Historical revisionism (negationism). Do we need Two (2) articles? By the way, going to One person is non WP:Canvassing. But I know that going to you is like going to 100 people (fortunately though, it can't be used against me). Cheers! Ludvikus (talk) 18:25, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

  • I also believe that with your vast knowledge of Russian (and other Slavic languages and/or cultures) you could contribute to the stub above. It's only my suggestion. I'm rather surprised that you didn't take me up on that. Why? --Ludvikus (talk) 17:02, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Jewish question vs. On The Jewish Question

Surely, Mikkalai, you don't think these should be merged? Do you really think Marxism, Zionism, & Antisemitism (reflecting the 3 uses) belong in one bag, and that this would not cause an Edit War? --Ludvikus (talk) 19:36, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

  • OK. I gotta take a break. Maybe a day. But I tried the best I could to preserve your meaning, with which I sympathize. Now I hope when I take a break the page will not be butchered after the effort you and I are putting into it. Of course you know it's an extremely touchy topic to write about. We have to deal I think write right away with Bruno Bauer and Karl Marx or we will get an edit war with those who feel Marx is disparaged with regard to his On The Jewish Question of 1844. By the way, that capital "T" is important. It's how the Marx-Lenin Institute had it cannonized. Can you look in that to? I think there is now a ridiculous challenge to turn it into "t". That's a mistake I think. --Ludvikus (talk) 23:21, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
  • But I forgot an important point. In New York City, where I hail from, Marx's writing On The Jewish Question was published in (small) book form, translated from the German, for the first time, in 1959, under the title A World Without Jews. I think that whent a long way to convince the public that he was an anti-Semite, which of course, he was not. As a Communist he could not be. Someone found a rare 1958 imprint by an obscure author to try to prove that AWWJ is not important and it shouldn't be mentioned. Anyway, I think it would be good if you looked into the matter and expressed your independent judgement. I have discussions, but they lead nowhere. I cannot figure out what the consensus is. Yet I've proven that that's the ONLY English book imprint until today. Cheers. --Ludvikus (talk) 23:37, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
  • I know I said I'd leave, but here's what I have to deal with (I'm very curious how you will handle the matter. Ludvikus (talk) 23:51, 30 April 2008 (UTC)):
"Again, see the article talk page. The "A World Without Jews" was and is obscure, and it is not "the cause of the view during the on and after 1959 that Marx was an antisemite" as you claim. It was an obscure claim by one author that attempted to make that claim, partly by giving a false title to Marx' article. As I pointed out on the talk page, this was not the first time the claim that Marx was an antisemite was made. Cheers, Boodlesthecat

Hayasa

Dear Sir/Madam, The current version of Hayasa or Hayasa-Azzi has 17 long quotes--many in Russian claiming that the language of the kingdom of Azzi-Hayasa were Armenian. Personally, I think this is dubious since we don't know what happened to Azzi-Hayasa after the 12th century BC. But it seems to me that 1) 17 footnotes is excessive for this article. Maybe 3 or 4 is enough. 2) Most of the references are in Russian which is not accessible to viewers on Wikipedia's English web site and 3) why does the article's paragraph about the supposed Armenian genesis of Azzi-Hayasa have to be placed at the very front of the article? Couldn't a location at the bottom of the article be a better spot for it? (like you did for Kura-Araxes) This seems like an excessively strong POV. I don't have a problem now listing Hayasa-Azzi as being part of Pre-historic Armenia because it certainly occupied part of the region we know of as Ancient Armenia but placing 17 footnotes at the front of the article truly detracts on the focus of the article--which is supposed to deal with the known (rather than hypothetical) history of Hayasa-Azzi itself as preserved in the Hittite records. It may be preferable to leave hypothethical theories at the bottom? What do you think? Thank You Artene50 (talk) 20:14, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Oral Tradition

Hi Mikkalai. You keep putting a kind of general tag on the article and reference "poor sources" and "dubious phrases;" it would really help if you could be more specific, perhaps using inline tags and the talk page. The article's pretty well-footnoted, with academic and scholarly materials -- can you please flag what you still find problematic, rather than putting the tag on sections or the entire article? Thanks. DavidOaks (talk) 15:39, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Hello again, Mikkalai. I'm afraid restoring the tag with the simple edit summary "(DON'T !!!!)" remains uninformative. Assuming that that this means something like "Please do not revert what I keep doing," I'd like to point out that this is precisely what you keep doing, but with a crucial difference: I have been providing academic, scholarly, published sources for each of the deleted "citation needed" tags (with none now remaining), while you, for reasons unknown, consistently decline the invitation to be helpfully specific about exactly what it is you feel is still in need of citation. Now, if there's something in particular that you feel needs further citation, I'll be happy to work on it. DavidOaks (talk) 18:29, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
