Mikio Naruse was a good article nominee, but did not meet the good article criteria at the time. There are suggestions below for improving the article. Once these are addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.

<Jun-Dai 21:51, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)> Does anyone know whether that image is copyright free? If so, we should put it commons and have it show up on the Japanese article for Naruse. Despite having an older and more full article than us, they have no picture. </Jun-Dai>

[edit] Good article nomination failed

After careful review of this article, I feel as though it fails to meet the criteria for good article status. The following issues would need to be addressed before this article could pass for GA:

1. There is a lack of inline citations throughout the article. Coupled with the fact there are but three references, and these are not available online, it makes this article very difficult to verify. In-line citations should be added and references expanded. If possible, I would try to use the external links for your references as well. Futhermore, the references section should follow a consistent format as per the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

2. The article is disorganized. Though the first heading is "Biography", it contains far more than a biography, but also a partial filmography and critical analysis of the movies. Because these are without citation, they could be original research. This needs to be reorganized into at least one other section, reserved for critical analysis.

3. The writing occasionally deviates from formality. For example: "where a couple is swindled out of a bank loan by the in-laws".

4. The writing contains long and complicated sentences that could be reduced for a more encyclopedic read.

5. I feel as though an additional image(s) would benefit this article. I have no idea whether this is feasible, but it seems as though a director from so long ago would have some public domain images from his works. This alone is not grounds for failure, but is definately important, especially if the article is to progress to a featured article nomination.

6. I worry that this article presumes both a knowledge of Japanese filmmaking and filmmaking in general that a reader wholly unfamiliar with the topics might stumble over the complexity of the writing. Certain terms and concepts should receive greater introduction to help the reader understand without being forced to read too many other articles before finding him/herself able to understand this one.

I feel as though these items are the ones most urgently needing attention. I also think this article has tremendous potential and with continued improvement, it will attain good article status, and perhaps even featured article. I encourage the editors to revise and resubmit this article for GA status evaluation. Cheers! Chuchunezumi 02:54, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
