In heavily Latino neighborhoods in 1970s-80s Southern California, like Venice and Oxnard, some non-Latino white kids who grew up in those areas adapted cholo slang and the use of Calo. This phenomenon seemed to exist until the rise in popularity of hip-hop culture made African-American street style more popular among young non-Latino whites than Latino street style. Muir, having grown up in East Venice in that era, was one of the non-Latino white kids who tried to talk like a cholo.

SoCal Chicanos have been wearing blue bandanas for years. Blue is the Southsider ("sureno") color. Probably doesn't have anything to do with "Crips" in this case. Especially since these guys started out dressing and talking like cholos.

Okay I understand that you can not like rap-metal, even if it's RATM, but still I have trouble imagining someone CRITISIZING their messages. Didn't suicidal tendencies and RATM tour together? And in my opinion Do What I Tell Ya! is a friendly mock song, not a hostile parody. Does anyone have any other facts?
