[edit] Deletion

This article has been requested for speedy deletion. I vehemently disagree here. Please see this from WP:BIO

Sportspeople/athletes/competitors who have played in a fully professional league, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming, or at the highest level in mainly amateur sports or other competitive activities that are themselves considered notable, including college sports in the United States. Articles about first team squad members who have not made a first team appearance may also be appropriate, but only if the individual is at a club of sufficient stature that most members of its squad are worthy of articles. Third-party verification from a non-trivial publication outside of publications by sponsors of the sport or activity should be provided to demonstrate that the subject is widely recognized—meeting the first criterion—as performing in a fully professional league or at the highest level.

If Mr Mooney is not notable because he appeared in just one NFL game, then the submitter better go around deleting many articles including Eddie Gaedel!. Also, I was unable to find where this was deleted before as per submitter Mikemoto 03:33, 8 March, 2007

I removed the speedy deletion tag. I was also unable to find a deletion via process (AfD), only a speedy deletion from earlier today; therefore criterion CSD:G4 does not apply. In addition, guidelines recommend keeping articles for NFL players, as noted above. However, additional information to improve the article beyond a two-sentence stub would be helpful; as it appears he died recently, perhaps it can be obtained from an obituary from a recognized publication. --MCB 07:01, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I found two online obituaries and added them as references. Note that both also make reference to his having played for the Houston Oilers as well as the Chargers, so perhaps the football database is incomplete. --MCB 07:21, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
