Mikhail Zhvanetsky (Ukrainian: Жванецкий, Мыхайло Мыхайловыч (Маньевич), Russian: Жванецкий, Михаил Михайлович) (born March 6, 1934 in Odessa) is a famous Russian Ukrainian satiric writer and a stand-up comedian. He is best known for his monologues (from Soviet time) performed on a scene by himself and by other actors in which he targeted different aspects of the Soviet and post-Soviet reality and everyday life. He is the author of several humor books. Until the perestroika times he was employed as a writer for other well-known Soviet stand-up comedians. At the same time his dissident monologues in his voice were widely distributed via magnitoizdat, a tape recorder version of samizdat. Since perestroika he started presenting his texts in concert halls.
