Mikey Bustos (born 1981) is a Filipino-Canadian singer who appeared on the reality television show Canadian Idol. He was known for his signature blue contact lenses.

[edit] Biography

Bustos is from the Weston neighbourhood of Toronto. Before Canadian Idol, he worked as a temp at the Bank of Montreal.[1]

He placed eighth in the finals of Canadian Idol Season One in August 2003, despite Chart magazine's prediction: "If we were to lay our bets today, ChartAttack’s money would be on Toronto contestant Mikey Bustos, a slightly strange looking young man with a shaved head and the voice of an angel."[2]

Bustos recorded two songs with the recording label BMG/Vik Recordings Canada for the Canadian Idol compilation album.

After Idol, Bustos briefly moved to New York City in 2004 to pursue his recording career. He released his debut EP record, Love Me Again, on 7 May 2005 produced by Brent Bodrug of B-Group Music, and featuring writing collaborations with Rob Patterson, Dean McTaggart, and Rebecca Valadez. In 2006, he toured parts of Canada, the US, and the Philippines, and opened for the Pussycat Dolls in Manila.[3]

In 2008, Mikey was front act for Christina Aguilera for her Back to Basics Tour Manila stop.
