Mikel Alonso Olano, commonly known as Mikel Alonso (born May 16, 1980 in Tolosa, Spain) is a Spanish (Basque) football midfielder who currently plays for English Premier League club Bolton Wanderers, on loan from Real Sociedad.

He is the son of Real Sociedad legend Periko Alonso and the older brother of Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. His first match in Primera División was in 22 April 2001, against Real Valladolid. In 2005–06 season (with José Mari Bakero being Real's manager), he was Real Sociedad's most used footballer, Alonso played 37 matches, followed by the goalkeeper Asier Riesgo and the defender Mikel Labaka.

Alonso was invited to Bolton Wanderers' pre-season training camp in Austria, and was signed on loan by then Bolton boss Sammy Lee on July 10, 2007 with the option of a permanent deal at the end of the season.[1]

Bolton opted not to make Alonso's loan deal in England a permanent one and the player returned to Spain in readiness for the 2008-08 season.
