Mike and Ike are a brand fruit-flavored candy. They were first introduced by Just Born, Inc. in 1940. They are oblong, fruit-flavored chewy candies that come in several colors and varieties (similar to Hot Tamales, another candy by the same manufacturer). They are fairly popular at movie theaters and drive-ins. There is much speculation about the origination of the name Mike and Ike.
Mike and Ike brand candies are certified kosher by the Orthodox Union and manufactured in the USA.

[edit] Flavors
The common varieties include the "original fruits", which features strawberry, orange, lime, lemon and cherry. There are also "Jolly Joes", an entirely grape-flavored Mike and Ike candy; "Tropical Typhoon" featuring orange, pineapple, strawberry banana, kiwi lime, Caribbean punch and pineapple banana flavors; "Berry Blast" which has flavors of blueberry, strawberry, mixed berry, raspberry and wild berry; and "Tangy Twister" featuring cherry, raspberry, citrus punch, pineapple, and green apple.
[edit] New flavors
On the Mike and Ike website, a poll was conducted to determine the next flavor of Mike and Ike to be produced. A vote between Lemonade Blends, Fruit Smoothies and Sherbet was won by Lemonade Blends.
[edit] Discontinued flavors
"Cherri and Bubb" and "Lem and Mel" are Just Born brand candies no longer in production. They consisted of, respectively, cherry and bubblegum flavored candies, and lemon and melon. They were packaged in boxes with cartoon characters of the same names.
[edit] Demand
The demand for this candy has led the Just Born company to expand its franchise in order to keep up with demand. There are now more than 50 export markets, including China, South Africa, Australia, Germany and the Caribbean.
