Mike Wilson (filmmaker)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mike Wilson (born February 18, 1976, in Moberly, Missouri) is an American documentary filmmaker. He made the 2004 documentary Michael Moore Hates America. He has subsequently produced and directed two independent documentaries. He is a Libertarian and atheist who has often[citation needed] been quoted as a skeptic and believer in common sense. He reportedly got the idea to make his movie about Michael Moore because he felt Bowling for Columbine had misleading facts and offensive, false, statements made by Moore. Wilson has stated in interviews and public speeches that he was inspired to make Michael Moore Hates America after many in the mainstream media reported his works as fact, rather than works of opinion.

Wilson made an appearance on a segment of The Daily Show with Samantha Bee. In it, Bee followed Wilson around as he unsuccessfully tried to get an interview with Moore; while Bee points out how "hard" it is to find Moore, he immediately walks behind her. Bee ends the segment by "remembering" she has Moore's phone number, and phoning him; they end up going out for lunch. Wilson was quoted on his website at the time saying "I've received email from people who think that Samantha Bee literally walked out of frame from me, and into another frame, where Michael Moore was standing. I've never realized how people can be so oblivious to the idea of 'editing' until now... and most of that comes from the left. Some of you on the right are angry with me for doing the "Daily Show" but I think you guys need to relax. It's comedy. I thought it was funny and you should too."[citation needed]

Michael Wilson has appeared at many universities, speaking about Michael Moore, libertarianism and freedom. His latest project (a documentary on boxing) is due out in 2008. Divorced after eight years of marriage, Wilson lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his daughter.
