Michael C. Shoemaker is an American politician of the Democratic party.

He served for many years in the Ohio House of Representatives and the Ohio State Senate.

Shoemaker's father, Myrl Shoemaker, was Lieutenant Governor of Ohio.

Mike Shoemaker assumed the leadership role at Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC) in February 2007. However, his familiarity with the mission of our Commission dates back to its inception in 1997. As a legislative member, Mike was instrumental in emphasizing the crucial role quality facilities play in the education of young people.

Director Shoemaker is a graduate of Capital University (B.S. in Education) and Xavier University (M. in Education). He began his 10-year teaching career as a math instructor and football coach in Southern Ohio. In 1977, he left education and started his own home construction business. Five years later the political arena beckoned and Mike was elected to the Ohio Legislature where he served for two decades (14 years with the House of Representatives and 6 years with the Senate). He distinguished himself as an outspoken advocate for equal educational opportunities for all children. Director Shoemaker was the only legislator to testify in the Perry County lawsuit that lead to the creation of Ohio’s current school building program.

In 2003, Mike dusted off his hammer and re-entered the construction business until his selection as OSFC’s fourth Executive Director.

Both of his adult children, Todd and Angie, have followed in their father’s footsteps as educators along with their spouses, Kim and John. Four grandchildren are now challenging their teachers in Pickaway and Ross counties. Mike and his wife, Kathy, live in Wampler Hills Subdivision near Circleville. (source: Ohio School Facilities)
