Mike Ladd

Mike Ladd is a hip-hop MC and producer. As an MC, he practices spoken-word and is known for his poetic lyrics. As a producer, he is known as the owner of the Likemadd label.

Before entering the world of music, he won the Nuyorican Poets Café Slam and was published in the 1996 protest tome In Defense of Mumia. In 1997, he released his first album (on Scratchie) entitled Easy Listening 4 Armageddon. For his next two releases (Welcome To The Afterfuture LP and Vernacular Homicide EP) , he concluded a deal with Ozone Music. Afterwards he began a trilogy staging a battle between the good and the evil (represented by The Infesticons and Majesticons, respectively), which the two first LPs were released on Big Dada in 2000 (Gun Hill Road) and 2003 (Beauty Party).His last record Father Divine has been released on ROIR and co-produced by Gymkhana. He currently lives in Paris with his wife and child. With pianist and composer Vijay Iyer he released a song cycle about the post-9/11 world, titled In What Language?, in 2004. They rejoined forces on a project about the news media in wartime, called Still Life with Commentator, released in 2007.
He features on the tracks "Sublime" and "Heroes" with Terranova on their 2002 record Hitchhiking Non-Stop With No Particular Destination. He also does vocals for the Jackson and his Computer Band song TV Dogs (Cathodica's Letter) from the album Smash.
