Rockford IceHogs Head Coach

Haviland was officially named the seventh Head Coach in Rockford IceHogs history and first American Hockey League bench boss in franchise history on July 5, 2007. Entering his thrid season as the Head Coach of the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL) top affiliate, Haivland was the reciepent of the 2006-07 Louis A.R. Pieri Award, given each season to the AHL's outstanding coach, while behind the bench of the Norfolk Admirals. Under his guidance, the Admirals set a franchise record going 50-22-6-2 with 108 points, also a franchise best. Overall, Haviland has a career winning percentage of .631 with a record of 265-132-35-16 in six seasons as a head coach in the protanks.

While in Rockford, Haviland earned career win 300 on 3/9/08 when the IceHogs topped Iowa 4-3 in overtime. Haviland led the IceHogs into the West Division Finals during his frist season in Rockford. The bench boss set a personal AHL career high with seven Calder Cup Playoff wins.

In two seasons in the AHL, Haviland has an overall record of 93-51-10-6 and has helped nurture 14 players to their NHL debut with Chicago. Prior to his stint in Norfolk, Haviland led a pair of clubs to the ECHL's Kelly Cup during his first four seasons as a head coach. In just his second season in 2002-03, Haviland's Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies captures the Kelly Cup, topping the Columbia Inferno 4-games-to-1. In 2004-05, his Trenton Tiatans squad beat the Florida EverBlades in six games to win the ECHL Championship.

Before his coaching duties, Haviland was a high-scoring forward while skating for Elmira College (NCAA) and his clubs won three ACAC Championships. After getting drafted by the New Jersey Devils (NHL) in 1990, Haviland's professional playing career was cut short due to a shoulder injury suffered after playing just 20 games in the pro ranks. After returning to Elmira College to earn his degree in Marketing Advertising, Haviland got his start in coachin as the assistant coach with the Soaring Eagles. Eventually Haviland landed in Trenton as an assistant coach for the 1999-2000 and 2000-2001 seasons.

As a head coach, Haviland has recorded 40 or more wins in each of six campaigns behind the bench. The Hockey News named the Middletown, NJ native the ECHL Coach of the Year in 2001-02.

Haviland and his wife, Lori, have three children, Shane, Riley, and Kelly.
