Michael "Mike" Grant (January, 1874 in Montreal, Quebec – August 19, 1955) was a Canadian ice hockey defenceman who played for the Montreal Victorias in the AHAC.

[edit] Playing career

Grant was perhaps the first defenceman that used his offensive prowess to help his team. The son of a Montreal blacksmith, he won three speed skating titles at the age of eleven. Utilizing this speed, Grant was known as one of hockey's first rushing defencemen. As a member and captain of the Montreal Victorias he lead the club to five Stanley Cup wins. Grant helped spread hockey's popularity in the United States as well, organizing exhibition games south of Canada's border. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1950.[1]
