Miguel (pron. IPA[mi'ɣɛɫ]), full name Luís Miguel Brito Garcia Monteiro, OIH, (born January 4, 1980 in Lisbon), is a Portuguese football defender. He currently plays for Valencia C.F. of La Liga.

Over the course of his career Miguel has played in various positions. He started his career with Estrela da Amadora as a winger, then progressed at SL Benfica, making the transition to right midfield and then right back (by the hand of Chalana, who positioned him there, in the first and, in that season, only game he managed as a (transition) coach for Benfica) - the position that ultimately has brought him worldwide recognition.

Miguel joined Valencia CF in August 2005 for a €7.5m fee.[1]

Miguel signed a new 5-year contract in Valencia in September 2007.[2]

A Portuguese international since making his debut against Italy on 12 February 2003, Miguel played for his country squad in Euro 2004, where Portugal were defeated in the final and at the 2006 World Cup.
