Ewanduffy 20:52, 28 October 2005 (UTC) Is it appropriate to decribe it as "of the Republic of Ireland", given that the MGWR ceased to exist before the Republic of Ireland came into being?

  • I have made edits to reflect this Dowlingm 23:20, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Ewanduffy 14:06, 3 November 2005 (UTC) Looks like its just you and me here Dowlingm :) Another couple of suggestions: The Athlone settlement was part of a wider agreement, including restricting the GS&WR to east and south of the Shannon (Dublin to Edenderry to the Shannon), ultimately breached in 1901 when the WL&WR was taken over.

As part of this battle also, the MGWR ended up proposing the Streamstown - Clara branch, being forced to build it by Parliament as a condition of a later Act.

I have updated the page on the Royal Canal, to note that the MGWR proposed to build the railway along the bed of the canal, but weren't given sanction by Parliament to do this. Relevant here also.

[edit] Sections

would the article look cleaner if the content on branch lines was in it's own section instead of in the header? Jeepday 14:45, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

I agree and I've changed it. Biscuittin (talk) 11:23, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
