This article is too technical, and no general definition was given. The subject is more properly "Music controller" rather than "MIDI Controller," because many new controllers (e.g., Monome emit Open Sound Control data rather than (or in addition to) MIDI. It is the fact that these devices control musical data that is relevant, not which data standard they support.
