The Midwest Sliders are a traveling minor league baseball team. The team is a member of the independent Frontier League, and is not associated with any Major League Baseball team. Players are able to sign with Major League Baseball organizations throughout the Frontier League season.
The Midwest Sliders were formerly known as the Slippery Rock Sliders, playing at Jack Critchfield Park in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania for the 2007 season. The team was formed to ensure an even number of teams after the formation of the Southern Illinois Miners. For 2007, the team played only 32 home games and 64 road games. In 2008, the Frontier League converted the Sliders to a travel team, playing all of its games on the road.
The Midwest Sliders will move to the 3,778-seat Diamond at the Summit in Waterford Township, Michigan for the 2009 season, where they will be known as the Oakland County Cruisers.[1] The name Cruisers is a reference to Oakland County's proximity to Detroit, the headquarters of the three most prominent automotive companies in the United States: Ford, Chrysler, and General Motors. All three companies also maintain significant investments in Oakland County.
