Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association is a college athletic conference which operates in the midwestern United States. It participates in the NCAA's Division III as a hockey-only conference.

On October 24, 2006, the MCHA added Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin, and on October 26, 2006, they added Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan. Both schools began play for the 2007-2008 season.

The University of Minnesota Crookston is a Division II schools, but operates the hockey team with no scholarships like the other members of the league. While the Golden Eagles can compete in the conference championship, they are ineligible for the NCAA Division III Tournament, but they are eligible for the Harris Cup.

Divisional Standings

For the first time this season, the MCHA has been split into two divisions: North and South. Teams within the same division play each other four times, while teams in opposing divisions meet twice in the season. All conference games will be considered in determining a team's divisional standing, and the two division winners will be seeded first and second in the MCHA's conference tournament, the Harris Cup. The remaining teams will be seeded third through eighth according to overall conference standing.

1The Soo Thunderbirds are a junior hockey team from the NOJHL. Games against these teams are not counted towards the Overall record nor in determining at-large berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

2SUNY-Potsdam is an NCAA Division III member from the SUNYAC. Games against them are counted towards the Overall record but not in determining at-large berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

3Lake Forest, UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, St. Norbert, UW-Superior, and UW-Stevens Point are NCAA Division III members from the NCHA. Games against these teams are counted towards the Overall record and in determining at-large berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

4Neumann is an NCAA Division III member from the ECAC West. Games against them are counted towards the Overall record but not in determining at-large berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament.

5Games against the Toronto Rattlers do not count towards either the Overall record or towards determining at-large berths in the Division III NCAA Tournament.

6Bethel, St. Olaf and Concordia-Moorhead are NCAA Division III teams from the MIAC. Games against them are counted in both the Overall record and in determining at-large berths for the NCAA Division III Tournament.

7Since Minnesota-Crookston is an NCAA Division II team, games against them are not counted towards determining at-large berths in the NCAA Division III Tournament, but they are counted towards Conference (if their opponent is in the MCHA) and Overall records.

*There is speculation according to the forums on United States College Hockey Online and the GMHL that the Toronto Rattlers are actually the GMHL All-Stars and that Finlandia defeated them 6-1. The site CollegeHockeyStats.net concurred with the 6-1 result, but still identified Finlandia's opponents as the Toronto Rattlers.

[edit] Harris Cup

The Harris Cup is the MCHA's conference tournament. Since the MCHA is a single-sport conference that has not had at least 7 Division III teams since 1998, the conference is currently not issued an automatic bid for its tournament champion. Since MCHA teams are yet even to secure an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament, the Harris Cup all but officially marks the end of the season, even for its champions.

As of this season, the semifinals and final of the Harris Cup will be hosted by the previous season's league champion, who, in the case of the 2008 tournament, is MSOE. All 8 teams, including Division II UM-Crookston, qualify for the tournament.
