[edit] Geography

Middleton Park is a semi wooded area of Middleton, West Yorkshire, England, south of Leeds centre, comprising of a Golf Course, Small Lake, Woods and a clearing.

The Middleton Railway runs nearby, between Moor Road and Park Halt.

The area contains a large amount of 'Shaft Mounds' which are thought to be from Medieval mining. Survey work is being done in Spring 2007, Winter 2007 and Spring 2008 to discover more about these shafts.

The shaft mounds seem to be of various types including Bell pits, Cog and Rung and Whim Gins.

Professional Archaeologist Martin Roe is leading the team from FOMP (Friends of Middleton Park), and South Leeds Archaeology Group.
