Middlesbrough and Ironopolis F.C.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Middlesbrough and Ironopolis Football and Athletic Club was a short lived football team based in the English town of Middlesbrough. It was formed on 1892-07-07 after a meeting between Middlesbrough Football Club and Middlesbrough Ironopolis Football Club with a view to making an application to join the Football League.
The club received only one vote in its application to join the Football League First Division, possible reasons being the long travelling distances and allegations of poaching of players from League teams. The club decided not to apply for membership of the Football League Second Division.
After failing to enter the League, and disagreements between the two original clubs on make up of and ground of the new club, the clubs reverted to playing individually.
