[edit] Career
The lead singer Sally Carr (* March 28, 1945), drummer Ken Andrew (* August 28, 1947), the guitarist Ian McCredie (* July 15, 1948) and on the bass his brother Eric McCredie (* July 17, 1945; † October 6, 2007) from Glasgow founded the band on April 1, 1970. But they already played together under the name "Part Three" since 1967 and later in Latin American style under the name "Los Caracas".
They moved to Italy in 1970, because they hadn't success in the United Kingdom. There they met the Italian music producer Giacomo Tosti, who gave the band their distinctive sound and gave them their international break.
The band had its first and biggest hit "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" on April 1971. This song became one of the most famous bubblegum pop songs ever. "Middle of the Road" had four hit singles in the UK: "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep", "Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum", "Sacramento" and "Samson and Delilah". The band had enduring succes only in Germany (eleven hit singles).
In 1974 the guitarist Neil Henderson (* February 11, 1953) from Glasgow accompanied the band. He wrote some songs for "Middle of the Road", but their commercial success couldn't keep pace with the earlier songs. Today the band still plays at music events under the name "Middle of the Road feat. Sally Carr".
