[edit] Proposing Category
I was wondering what category we could create in equivalency to Rulers of Numenor and Rulers of Gondor, in regards to Arnor, given how it was broken up and destroyed. "Rulers of Arnor" doesn't seem quite appropriate.
I'm not sure whether I'd prefer "Leaders of the Dúnedain of Arnor" or "Leaders of the Dúnedain of the North"? Any preferences or other suggestions? Aris Katsaris 11:23, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- I'd prefer "of the North" — Arnor ceased to exist with Amlaith, and while Arthedain did reclaim the name of "Arnor" starting with Argeleb I, the Dúnedain of the north also included the remnant of the people of Cardolan. Image:Anarion.png 11:39, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)
In the absense of a clear and obvious title for the category, do we really need another category? With the Númenórean rulers and Kings and Stewards of Gondor out of the way, the category is down to a more reasonable size. And - particularly in LotR - the Dúnedain of the North are frequently just referred to as the Dúnedain. The term is rarely used for Men of Gondor or Númenor, so I think it may actually be the preferred term for leaders of the Dúnedain in the North. --Aranel ("Sarah") 16:35, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Very good point. Agreed. Image:Anarion.png 16:48, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- While we've got all these people actually paying attention to Middle-earth categories, I'd like to also work on the incorrectly-titled Category:Middle-earth men. --Aranel ("Sarah") 16:46, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

- And Elves, Dwarves… M-e races are Proper Nouns. Image:Anarion.png 16:48, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

- You edit ALL articles to point to the new one… in other words you cannot :( Image:Anarion.png 18:22, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

- Hmm, okay, nice point. Still, if we eventually decide we want a category, I think I'd now prefer the simple "Dúnedain of the North". *g* Give it a thought if you will. Aris Katsaris 19:48, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

- Just for the heck of it… "Heirs of Isildur"? Image:Anarion.png 19:52, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- I like "Dúnedain of the North". Although it actually would include such persons as Gilraen who would not fall under "Heirs of Isildur" (which makes it different from the other two sub-catgories which specify leaders only), it avoids such questions as "can one really be called an heir if one does not inherit?" But anyway, I think "Dúnedain of the North" is more in keeping with typical LotR terminology. (However, at the moment Category:Middle-earth places and Category:Middle-earth are in much more desperate need of sub-dividing. I'm running out of bright ideas.) --Aranel ("Sarah") 00:05, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

- "Middle-earth bodies of water" is my recommendation -- to group together the various lakes, bays and seas. Glad you like "Dúnedain of the North". Unless Anarion has significant objection, I'll probably create that one too. Aris Katsaris 00:47, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

- No objection whatsoever. Image:Anarion.png 07:55, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Duplicate categorizing
I suppose it is needless having the Stewards mentioned in two categories, M-e Dúnedain and Rulers of Gondor? The latter is clearly a subcategory of the former, as all of them were Dúnedain of high descent. If no objections, I'll possibly remove M-e Dúnedain cat from articles on Stewards.
