[edit] A-class review
The A-class review department for biographies is not yet active. I've made a start by copying the MILHIST pages and adjusting some things, but I haven't finished yet. But it seems Leonard Orban is as good an article as any to start with, so I'll contact some other users to start reviewing. Errabee 15:10, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- BTW, thanks for the nice template, which I shamelessly reused as
{{WPBio A-class review}}
. Errabee 09:25, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] {{Volcano}} tags
Hi Michkalas, I'm the founder of and one of the main contributors to WikiProject Volcanoes. I noticed that you've added {{Volcano}} tags to numerous images recently, while also adding {{WikiProject Iceland}} tags. I don't know whether WikiProject Iceland wants all those images to be tagged, but I do know that WikiProject Volcanoes would prefer that images NOT be tagged, especially not tagged as articles (which they are not). We do have a separate {{Volcano image}} tag, but would prefer that tag to be used only on selected photos, maps, and graphics which are important to the WikiProject, and not placed indiscriminately on thousands of volcano images. If you would like to place tags for WikiProject Volcanoes, please read the project page for more info before doing so, especially the section Wikipedia:WikiProject Volcanoes#New WikiProject Volcanoes tags.
Thanks for your attention to this matter. I am in the process of removing the {{Volcano}} tags from those images. --Seattle Skier (See talk tierS) 04:24, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Icelandic phonology
May I ask why this article has been merged with Icelandic alphabet? I intend to demerge the article pretty soon. Sorry if your intentions were good, but could you discuss it first in future? It’s only that it’s not in line with other language article series. Plus the Icelandic alphabet kinda deserves special mention because it includes two runes that are not used in other Latin-based alphabets. Thanks. Max Naylor 15:44, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Re. the message you left on my page: OK, understood, I’ll sort the articles out now. Max Naylor 15:58, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Iceland
I'm not really interested, but thanks anyway John Hayes 16:00, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I would be interested, time permitting, but right now I'm swamped with work. I'll read the article. If it requires one to register as a special contributor or something like that, I'm inclined to decline. :-) But the subject is one of my interests, and my own contributions, meagre as they may be, have revolved around Icelandic culture, history and language. Let's say I'll give it a thought and in any case, I'm very pleased that there is a project now. There are a few very qualified contributers, but they (like me) also have other things going on. But Wikipedia is there for the long haul, and one day we'll have a fairly complete Icelandic grammar and history of the language on-line. All the best Io 20:04, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for inviting me, but I don’t really know that much about Iceland, at least not enough to write articles. Good luck! Felix ahlner 22:14, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re. WikiProject Iceland
Why yes, I'm actually interested in this WikiProject! :-) I've been a bit busy lately, but when I get back to full swing I might just create a few Iceland stubs and get back to work on Portal:Iceland. Best regards, Húsönd 23:39, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies
You spoke about merging Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies with Árni Magnússon Institute. I’m thinking of going ahead with this under the new name of Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies. What do you think? Max Naylor 14:20, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bot for WP:ICELAND
I know you said that you don’t have any time to add a feed to this bot, but you seem to be on Wikipedia as much as I am :P. I’ve tried going through the instructions for adding a new feed to the bot, but they are really unclear, can you help me with this, or at least give it a read over? BTW, I’m updating the Icelandic language template as we speak. Thanks for the smile BTW! Max Naylor 19:06, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Godfather15.jpg
Hello, Michkalas. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Godfather15.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Michkalas. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 05:48, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Philately WikiProject
You are listed as a participant in the Philately WikiProject. Today I have created an inactive list consisting of those participants who have not made any philatelic edits for more than six months. I was going to use a 3 month cut off point but felt generous. You may be one of those editors, so if I have moved you and you want to remain an active participant, please forgive me, and move your name back from the inactive list to the active list. If you are still active on Wikipedia but are inactive in philately I hope there is no harm done in listing you as inactive. We really need more active participants for all philatelic articles. The Philately Portal has been running for some time and I am doing occasional updates, Postage stamps of Ireland is a candidate for featured article (that would be the first philatelic article), and several of the redlinks have been filled but we need more activity so if you are around please participate. Otherwise thanks for the work you have done in the past. Cheers ww2censor 00:29, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.

[edit] Image source problem with Image:European Year of Languages 2001 logo.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:European Year of Languages 2001 logo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:25, 21 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 16:25, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:European Year of Languages 2001 logo.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:European Year of Languages 2001 logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 16:25, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Leonard_Orban.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Leonard_Orban.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 23:38, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ESF EN1.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:ESF EN1.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:International Literacy Day 2006.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:International Literacy Day 2006.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:15, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
