Golfer Infobox

Hello! Thank you for adding the infobox I created to several golfers' articles. I am keeping a log of all articles which have this infobox along with those who added them on my userpage. Please add the articles on which you have placed the infobox to the list. Thanks, and keep it up! Supertigerman 16:30, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

Detailed win summaries

I noticed you added the format of wins I originally created for Tiger Woods to K.J. Choi's, Jim Furyk's and Phil Mickelson's pages. This is a great addition. Use this site for all your needs and it will in most cases contain all the information you need. Also be aware of switching the colors of majors and world golf championships (I changed them on Mickelson's page) and keep in mind that the World Golf Championships consist of only 4 events which began in 1999. Happy editing! :) Supertigerman 03:06, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Major champions templates

Do you think we should wikilink the years to the specific championships? For example, on Template:U.S. Open champions, there are currently 4 wikilinked years (because 4 tournament pages have been created so far), but it gets tougher to distinguish between the years and the players if everything is blue. I think something about the formatting has to change on all 4 templates. Supertigerman 18:17, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I just noticed that the tennis champions templates do not wikilink the years for the championships. Perhaps we should not either. Supertigerman 18:22, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Former Masters Tournaments

Although we are trying to create all the past pages, why don't we first decide on what is going to be on a completed page instead of creating stubs? I think the positions of the top 10 players after each of the 4 days would be appropriate along with any commentary that we can find. It is nice to have blue wikilinked pages in templates, but I think it is more crucial to have well written and completed pages first. Supertigerman 01:07, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

I also think we should add the money won by each player (this is on golfstats.com). The round-by-round data would have to be deduced by looking at the scores from each round. This would take some time, but why not be the first people to do so, right? :) Supertigerman 01:11, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good. I'll work on the day by day standings too. Supertigerman 01:16, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Looks good except for the mysterious E. French (i'll see if Tewapack knows anything about him). I thought of one way to speed things up in terms of listing the first three rounds: Copy and paste the whole table from the masters official website into excel. It will automatically separate into columns. Then you can use "ctrl+f" to search and find the lowest scores in any column. Supertigerman 03:01, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Haha, nice. Have fun! On a separate note, I see that you live in NYC, and I live only about 45 mins from there in northern NJ... Supertigerman 03:06, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

michfan2123 00:24, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I'd rather see that info taken out of the infoboxes, to return them to the smaller neater form they had before. Like many infoboxes on Wikipedia, they are too big in relation to the size of the articles, and repeat too high a proportion of the information in the article for little or no benefit. Old tournaments template

  • It's going to be very difficult to find this information in one place. Sometimes you can get lucky and put in the name of an old tournament in a search engine (I've been using the Dogpile search engine lately), and there will be an article somewhere that gives you a great deal of info. I've started searching the articles of older guys who won a lot of PGA events in the 1950s and 1960s (e.g. Palmer, Finsterwald, Rosburg) and writing each tournament which doesn't have an article in a notebook -trying to reconstruct it that way. Lastly, I live in Florida, and plan to visit the bookstore at the Hall of Fame sometime before the end of the year to look for a book that has all the old tournaments. If I find anything, I'll let you know. Keep up the good work that you've been doing!!--Hokeman 14:19, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

H. D. G. Leveson-Gower

Hello. Just thought I'd mention, in case you weren't aware of it, that "-ise(d)" spellings are considerably more common than "-ize(d)" ones in British English, so do not need to be "corrected". One of the little ironies of British English is that the Oxford English Dictionary consistently prefers to use Z, but the vast majority of other sources of record (government, newspapers etc) prefer to use S. See, for example, the Serious Organised Crime Agency. Loganberry (Talk) 23:21, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Your RFA

In your RFA you mentioned that you wanted to "revert vandalism at a faster rate," there are several tools you can use to do this that do not require admin status. You might find Lupin's Anti-vandal tool and WP:TWINKLE helpful. Also, there are several external programs such as WP:MWT that you can use to monitor vandalism. Lastly, after reverting vandalism, consider warning the vandals with these templates.--Rise Above The Vile 00:54, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

If you have any questions about using those scripts or warning vandals feel free to ask me. No one can fault you for trying to become an admin, its admirable that you wish to take on more responsibility to help the project. Hopefully, your future RFA will be more successful. Best of luck!--Rise Above The Vile 01:11, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
You set up your monobook.js wrong. Insert "importScript('User:AzaToth/twinkle.js');" (minus the quotations) and reload the page by pressing Control-Shift-R in Firefox or Control-F5 in Internet Explorer.--Rise Above The Vile 01:30, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Great, feel free to contact me if you need any further help.--Rise Above The Vile 01:35, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Hmm...Can you give me a detailed description of whats going on? Have you installed the program and it just won't open or can you not get it to install?--Rise Above The Vile 01:40, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
There is a bug affecting some users where MWT will close if IE is running simultaneously, try closing all internet browsers and then running MWT.--Rise Above The Vile 01:45, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

It should say something along the lines of "your not currently on the list" and then adds you to the list...Try downloading the file again and reinstalling it. You're leaving all the extracted files (including the .exe) in the same folder you extracted them to, right?--Rise Above The Vile 01:56, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't think that manually adding your name to the list will solve the problem. Unfortunately, I think we've exhaust my limited knowledge on this subject. Since I'm not familiar with the code I don't think I can be of further help to you. You might try bringing this issue up on #mwt on freenode, or on Wikipedia talk:MWT. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.--Rise Above The Vile 02:02, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Your RFA (cont)

You can withdraw your RFA anytime you wish, simply indicate this desire on your RFA page (by doing something along the lines of this) and it will be closed. Please don't get discouraged by this.--Rise Above The Vile 02:23, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Future RFA

Like I mentioned at the RFA, getting experience reverting, warning, and reporting vandals will definitely help your future RFA chances. Monitoring the newpage list and marking articles that don't belong on Wikipedia with CSD templates or categorizing articles that do belong in Wikipedia will also show potential reviewers that you understand Wikipedia's policies. Giving thoughtful responses on articles listed for deletion also will impress RFA reviewers. As for a timeframe, there is no specific amount of time to wait, however users are generally discouraged from reapplying less than roughly 3 months later. You can of course, reapply earlier if you feel like you have gained enough experience, but I wouldn't recommended it. It may be beneficial to undergo editor review prior to reapplying, as this will help you gauge the community's reaction to a new RFA and it will give you additional tips for improvement. Finally, admin coaching exists to help users like you get the necessary experience to become an admin. Good luck!--Rise Above The Vile 02:59, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism warnings

Just dropping a short note to advise you that generally a given user or IP address should be reported to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism only after they have been properly warned. Said warning should consist of a series of escalating warnings - see User_talk:74.129.3.137 for an example. A number of the reports you recently made were by IP accounts that either did not have any warnings placed there, or had only one or two low level warnings. AIV is for obvious and persistent vandals. As well, it's generally poor etiquette to call an IP editor a "vandalism-only account" since it could possibly be anyone on the other side of the keyboard. Tabercil 03:09, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

You can see the full range of warnings that can be issued here. Tabercil 03:12, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Golf

Hi Michfan2123/Archive1
I thought that a way to further improve the golf articles on Wikipedia is for the whole project to work together towards a goal. An example of this could be a certain number of good articles in so many months, or to create the project's first ever featured article. If you are interested, come to the talk page and discuss it. And hopefully through this the project can continue to work towards several goals in the near future. Grover 10:09, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Article Assessment

Hi Michfan2123,
I assessed those articles for you, they were all start class, but Rory McIlroy and Martin Kaymer were verging on B class. I don't have hard and fast rules for assessing, except for if the article has no or very little references then the best it will rate is a start class. For example the Charles Howell III article has a fair bit of info but noo references, so I classed it as start. The other two had some good information and were fairly well referenced, but, again, were only just not a B-class article. Maybe a little more info including references and they would be pretty safe B-class articles. For something to be a B class article, for me, it should be the quality prose and relative length of Charles Howell III with fairly good referencing. As for the importance, I just assess each article as I get to it. I haven't figured out any rules for that. Anyways, hope that helps, and happy editing! Grover 04:28, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

P.S. I'm glad someone is getting in with me and doing the hard yards with assessing, a bit more of this and they'll all be assessed :D. I'm keeping a running tally and at the moment it's down to about 60-61% unassessed, which is good from 83-84% a couple of months ago. Grover 04:30, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

It helps when others are keeping an eye on changes to a page - it took me a little bit of thinking to figure out why you'd deleted the Laureus succession box from Michael Schumacher! No big problem, but it's helpful for others. Cheers. 4u1e 18:33, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Callaway Golf

I rated it as a B class, but it was on the borderline. Down to under 50% unassessed! Getting there! Keep up the good work :) Grover (talk) 07:11, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah it is a bit time consuming, but it'll be worthwhile in the end I guess. Jack Nicklaus definately isn't ready for featured status yet, it needs a fair bit more work, I just wish someone would take some initiative and start. I've been doing a bit over the past couple of weeks, but i'm not an expert writer, so it needs other editors. Grover (talk) 08:42, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
This looks really good, really well researched and lots of info there in an easy to read format. This actually isn't an article though, it's a list, so no assessment is needed for it. You can assess it as a "NA" class in the template. One thing that would be useful for it is a small introduction like the one on Golfers with most wins in men's major championships, detailing the history of the U.S. Open, and it's importance in international golf. Hope that helps! Grover (talk) 07:53, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

AIV reporting

Thank you for making a report about 24.184.107.37 (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you! Mr.Z-man 04:56, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

World Cup

Hey again! Yeah this looks well written and well referenced, once the tournament is finished you could safely rate it a B-class article. Just one thing that would be good is where the scores are, instead of just having the headings as "1st Round" and "2nd Round", give the format used for each day, i.e. "1st Round (Four-ball)" or something like that. I know it's stated in the article but it would probably be easier for users if they didn't have to go back and look again. Just a suggestion! Other than that it's a great looking article :) keep up the good work! Grover (talk) 03:44, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Last and next games

Greetings! I´ve been contributing to Wikipedia by adding and updating the last and next game in the article of every national football team (FIFA and Non-FIFA) in Wikipedia every day. I started by asking many Wikipedians if they thought this was a good idea and they all accepted this idea (except in the United States national football team which they kept reverting). When I started adding this in the UEFA national football teams, I received your message telling me to stop doing this. I would be very grateful if you could let me add this information into the UEFA national football teams without reverting them. Thanks!

Thank you for changing back all those pages with mini team logos! That was a lot of work! Jwalte04 (talk) 22:34, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Totally Agree

I agree with you 100%. Several articles are less notable than this. It annoys me. Chandlerjoeyross (talk) 21:11, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

You are invited!

New York City Meetup

Next: Sunday March 16th, Columbia University area
Last: 1/13/2008
This box: view  talk  edit

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, and have salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects (see the last meeting's minutes).

Well also make preparations for our exciting Wikipedia Takes Manhattan event, a free content photography contest for Columbia University students planned for Friday March 28 (about 2 weeks after our meeting).

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and (weather permitting) hold a late-night astronomy event at Columbia's telescopes.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

You're also invited to subscribe to the public Wikimedia New York City mailing list, which is a great way to receive timely updates.
This has been an automated delivery because you were on the invite list. BrownBot (talk) 03:14, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Major Championship Timelines

Hi Michfan. Is there anyway, apart from going through every article, to find out which articles have the major championship timelines in them. I've come across your page to check which timelines have been filled in for each major, but there are people like Colin Montgomerie who won't be involved. I am planning to fill in the timelines now for those with timelines, who wont be in Augusta. Eddie6705 (talk) 14:54, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
