[edit] Help! Developing Signatures

Hi there! I was just wondering how one added data to their signatures, such as a flag, a talk and contribs links... to the admin or whoever answers this, thanks!

Read [1] and the section below it. Cheers, —Centrxtalk • 04:43, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Revert Scripts

Hey there! I was wondering if there is a revert script available that can be run on both Mac OS X 10.3 (Safari 1.3), and Windows XP (IE 6). I'd like to get a demo from somebody who knew how to run such a script, and how to use it. Thanks!  MichaelHenley (Page-Talk-Contribs) 10:40, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

All I am aware of is the scripts from User:Lupin, one of which contains a "filter recent changes" function and a "non-admin rollback." You can ask him for more information. Peter O. (Talk) 14:44, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Use of my userpage format

I thought I recognised that box when I went to your page!

Hey, I borrowed it from someone else a few years ago anyway. :) --One Salient Oversight 23:32, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] copyright crap

[edit] Variables in userboxes

Hey again! Do you know how to introduce a variable into a userbox?

That's one trick this dog hasn't learnt yet! I'm sure I'll learn one day. I suggest you copy the code from a variable userbox and play around with it to see what happens - that's how I'll eventually learn. Sorry I can't help in this case. --One Salient Oversight 12:16, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I did it with some success in my BMI userbox [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Barfbagger/Userboxes/Body_Mass_Index]]. Leave me a note if you need any help. PS Michael - your Homemade userboxes are actually titled Homeade. Barfbagger 04:25, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Use of Images

I've noticed that you have made userboxes with a Wolfmother logo and a screenshot from 1984. You're going to have to remove these because, under US copyright law, these images can only be used as "fair use", which means that they can only be shown in articles which relate directly to the image. eg the Wolfmother logo can only appear on the Wolfmother article, the 1984 screenshot can only appear on the 1984 article. They can't appear on userboxes. If you don't remove them I can guarantee you that someone will. When searching for images for userboxes, always try to find ones that are public domain or under a CC or GNU license. If you were making a userbox about Metallica, for example, you can't use their official logo, but you can use a public domain photo. Hope this helps. At some point the "fair use police" will jump on you about this so you better get crackin'. --One Salient Oversight 12:24, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

  • One Salient Oversight is absolutely correct. Three times now I've removed such an image from User:MichaelHenley/ubx/Wolfmother. Please do not put another fair use image on that userbox, as doing so violates our policy as described at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria item #9. If you have any questions about this, I'd be happy to answer. --Durin 13:06, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
aw dude! u tryin to make an example of me?I äm Parañø!d 23:45, 8 *May 2007 (UTC)

OK then Oversight. I'll hunt around for public domain images. Durin, if I was to email wolfmother (e.g. admin, the band members themselves, or whoever) about the use of the image on userboxes, and they gave me the OK, would it then be possible to put those images in the userboxes?

  • No, it wouldn't. Images at Wikipedia fall into two general categories, free and non-free. Permission to use images on Wikipedia count as "non-free" with the result being they may not be used on userboxes. If you want to get permissions, you need to request Wolfmother to release the media in question under a free license. For instructions on how to do so, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. The m:OTRS team will need to verify the results. --Durin 12:31, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
