No, I did not know, yet I have often wondered. We non-microbiologists often get the vague impression that there are always limitations to every method of killing microbes (heat, cold, lipid breakdown via soap, dessication, antiseptics, antibiotics, and on and on), but are usually left clueless as to the details.
