I feel the recent additions due to the presidential search "controversy" is being used as a dumping ground for Gartner-bashing, and is purposely stacked with "reports" and heresay. Citing the wikipeida's self-definition: "Wikipedia is NOT a dumping ground for random information. Wikipedia is NOT a place to publish your opinions."[1] I think the controversy section needs to be redone and include only pertinent, factual information. I personally do not approve of his recent actions, but wikipedia isn't the place for campaigning against someone. JW 09:02, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I am the Nicholas Johnson whose blog is linked from the bottom of the Wikipedia entry on Michael Gartner. However, I have made no contribution to the Wikipedia Gartner entry, and only just discovered it today (Dec. 27). My blog, FromDC2Iowa.blogspot.com, as of today contains 18 consecutive blog entries regarding the Iowa Board of Regents search for a president for the University of Iowa. They begin Nov. 17, the day when the Regents rejected the 4 finalists from a near-year-long, $215,000 search, which the Regents had designed and in which four of whom played an active role. The blog entries contain links to the full text of hundreds of media stories, editorials, others' blog entries, and basic reference documents -- as close as I can make it to a complete collection. Although my personal opinion is that some of the Regents' statements, actions and behavior have not well served the University, the State of Iowa, the Governor (Vilsack) who appointed them -- and, indeed, themselves -- those linked documents also contain some letters to the editor supporting Gartner, along with the statements of the Regents' themselves in an effort to be balanced. The blog entries also contain lengthy essays/analyses of my own (including one titled, "In Praise of Michael Gartner"). Together they represent what The Chronicle of Higher Education has called "one of the most comprehensive analyses of the controversy." All of this is by way of a long-winded introduction to my opinion that, having quickly read the Wikipedia Gartner entry, I believe that anyone having read my (as of today) 18 blog entries on Michael Gartner's role in the Regents' presidential search, including the linked material, would probably conclude that most (if not all) of the assertions regarding that most recent chapter in his multi-varied life are supported by contemporaneous journalistic reports of the events. -- Nicholas Johnson, www.nicholasjohnson.org; FromDC2Iowas.blogspot.com, Dec. 27, 2006 Editor52 20:15, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
