[edit] People's Democracy
A recent edit has changed "People’s Democracy, which was formed on 9 October 1968" to "the People’s Democracy political party, which was established on 9 October 1968." It was my understanding that PD was formed as a student group, although later they ran several candidates in the 1969 election. Can anybody tell me when it was actually established as a political party?
Also, was Michael Farrell the leader of People's Democracy, either on its formation or later? Was he leader, or spokesman, or a spokesman during the Belfast to Derry march in January 1969? Scolaire 14:54, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
My memory of People's Democracy is that it was a political organisation, bit not a formally constituted political party. Michael Farrell was one of the founding members and ONE of the leaders of the organisation. In the early period it had a very loose structure and to speak of anybody as THE leader or THE spokesperson of the organisation would be wildly misleading - as is also clear from teh article on PD..
In 1976 after merging with the Movement for a Socialsit Republic it became the official Irish section of the USFI.
I am changing the reference to the PD as a political party. Mia-etol (talk) 17:27, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
