Microtel
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Microtel Inns & Suites is a budget/economy hotel franchise. It has locations in Argentina, Canada, Honduras, Mexico, Philippines and United States.
All Microtel hotels are original construction, rather than being converted to the brand. Microtel is the first economy/budget hotel brand to offer local and long distance calls in the continental U.S. and wireless high-speed Internet access as standard services[citation needed]. Microtel hotels are typically two to four story buildings with interior corridors. Rooms typically have a unique design, featuring a wall length mirror over the beds (as opposed to the more standard painting) as well as a cot-like cushion on the windowsill, allowing a small but potentially additional sleeping space. A continental breakfast is served each morning and each Microtel hotel is independently owned and operated. The first location opened in 1996. Microtel's name comes from the word "micro," meaning "mini or very small," and "hotel," so if translated, the name means "small hotel." Competitors include Red Roof Inn, Park Inn/Suites, and Knights Inn.
