Microsoft Sam
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Microsoft Sam is the default text-to-speech voice in Microsoft Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It is used by the screen reader program built into the operating system.
There are other voices available in other packages like Microsoft Office or Microsoft Reader add-ons, such as Lernout & Hauspie Michael and Michelle. You may choose which voice you wish to use with the Control Panel's Speech dialog box.
Some find it fun to make it say strange things using the Control Panel dialog, which allows you to hear what each voice sounds like. Microsoft Sam is well known for pronouncing the word "soi" in French with a superficial resemblance to a helicopter blade. It is also known for pronouncing "crotch" as "crow's nest."
In Windows Vista, it was replaced by Microsoft Anna.
